Why would a guy say something bad about a girl he was very close friends with?

Hi,

So my brother and I went for drinks and his chick friend who I met many times was there, my brother and the girl had a great friendship they were close homies and we all hung out together, I was away for a few months for work

When she saw me she waved at me, but didn't look at my brother and he didn't look up either, so I told him aren't you going to say anything he just shrugged his shoulders.

So I let it go didn't want to upset him but when we were leaving I told him let's go say bye to her, he just said F**k her! And walked out.

Yes I could ask him obviously but I'm only here for a few more days and don't want to ruin it, but what would make a guy say this about a person he was extremely close with.
