Okay, well, there's your problem. That's why you're not getting anywhere.
For two people to have a successful conversation, they need to be in the moment and fully engaged.
If you're just shooting off single messages randomly, that's never going to materialize into anything meaningful.

Ask him what is a good time for him to chat. And set up a time that works for both of you. And then take an hour or two and have an actual conversation. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. You need to allow a space for the conversation to open up and blossom.
