Do you remember people who study with you in elementary or middle school?

I'm asking because this happens a lot to me, and is mostly with guys classmates not girls. I don't know if is that I didn't liked that time of my life or if I just see it weird that they out of nowhere greet me. Is this considered common.

I remember the ones from school, but I don't remember the first-year classmates from the university, some greet me but I really don't even remember their faces.
