Why does he still act weird around me?

It’s been about 4 months since we went on dates and such, and the reason why it never went further was because he wasn’t ready to get serious and had a lot of stuff happening in his life. I thought we would be cordial and go back to how we were before, like jokey and a knowledge each other, but it’s been months and he still acts weird and avoidant. Even one of my coworkers saw how we interacted and was like “okay that was awkward why is he being like that?” So why is he being this way? I feel like I’ve been okay and want us to be normal around each other but whether I give him space or try to crack jokes, he always acts weird.
