Why are guys in multiplayer games so creepy?

Honestly it’s turned me off playing multiplayer because as soon as my voice hits the mic you could hear a pin drop I swear. Then it’s either constant sucking up to me or sexist tripe that I can’t game and should go make a sandwich.

The only solution really is to turn off my mic but the fact that I have to do this in the first place is kind of Fked up. Like why are online gamers so disrespectful towards women especially?

Online gamers are just horrible to people to begin with. It's really no different from the rest of the internet, but you add in the element of direct competition and remove the costs associated with being an asshole to someone you are in the same room with, as well as the requisite social skills to get into a room with other people, and you can see why this could go sideways in a hurry. Tabletop games with people you know are always going to be superior to electronic games with thousands of rude aggressive strangers from whom you gain nothing by interacting.

Paradoxically, these mostly single men are pushing women out of their hobby by acting this way, and creating a self fulfilling prophecy about lack of female participation in gaming. Of they would get out of their own way, maybe more women would join or stay in the gaming community. The gun range community has spent decades trying to solve the sausage fest problem, i. e. lack of participation by the fairer sex. It turns out that simple human decency and respect of people in the same room or outdoor range as you can and does pay dividends getting girls and women to come back to shoot again, and even get into the competitive side. Things like holding doors or putting up targets for the next person are not simping, it's just human decency. Being in the same room imposes costs and restrictions that abusing a random stranger online does not, a case for more in-person interaction if ever there was one.

Computer games, multiplayer or not, are not at all my concern, but maybe I can guess why what you mention happens. Set aside the fact anonymity may help release some unwanted behaviours in players, the excitement of the game itself makes players themselves more excited, and thus their language I guess, as well as all kinds of stereotyped ideas more controled in daily real life...

They are like that to other guys too. What I have found is that if you play for a while you can find some decent friendly people and form a gaming group to regularly play with. That is why Xbox has the party system so you only invite your friends to party chat and don't hear interactions with the strangers. It makes it a better gaming experience.

Their competitive drive makes them trash talk or be rude to anyone not just to women and women who are actually tough enough to withstand them also act the same. So if those online players are enough to let you down who basically can't do shit about you, then online games aren't for you.

It took 1000s of years to get men to not see women as property in person and it actively requires boys to be taught. Online is a whole new beast.
