I have a very bad habit of answering late most my friends, extended family and so on, there are very very few people I answer on time. Which I am sure people dislike but some are understanding and still love me as they know me close enough to know I don’t mean to be rude or hurt them but that I do genuinely need some time away from texting and I prefer face to face conversations.
There was an older man who texted me very actively and he was very nice and really seemed to like me, I always replied but sometimes I replied him a week later, or on some occasions even two weeks later.
He kept messaging me and updating about his life, even though I was not responding. I was reading everything though. And some days I even was looking forward to hearing from him.
One day I replied him that I was impressed he hadn’t given up on me by now.
He said he was really happy to read that message and that he knew I was reading everything and he knew I enjoyed receiving his messages and he knew I’d eventually reply.
I asked him how he knew it, and he said “You might not be answering right away, but I learned something about you so far, you are very consistent“
I felt very accepted at that moment, because I realized he saw something good in a trait of mine that would be and has been translated into something rude by most other people.
