Why would someone try to avoid my gaze or leave when I’m close?

This guy was nice to me when I looked like I was crying, in this class that I act kind of stupid ( a bad habit of mine is that I start stuttering when anxious and when taking a form of test I always have to stumble over my words) he told me it always gets better and I said smiling that I wasn’t crying (like that I was fine) it’s been over a week since then and when I look in his direction he changed seats and today when I had to sit behind him since there was no other seats he got up and moved. Why could it be that I make him uncomfortable. I wish I could talk to him but if these are signals that he doesn’t like me/ I bother him I feel hesitant.

Sounds to me like he's just a kind and gentle soul kind of guy, and not really interested in trying to get something out of being kind by taking it to the next level.

It’s not about that it’s about understanding signs they’re giving and not misreading them looking for friendship in someone who feels uncomfortable with my presence.

Really I just wanted closure on what I did to annoy them to the extent of getting up from where they were.

Young guys in high school most of the time they’re not comfortable with crying girls or anyone. It took me a long time to get used to that situation around other people especially my older Married neighbor that was having problems with her husband she started crying. I didn’t know what to do. I felt very uncomfortable but I was sorry for her. It wasn’t my style as a younger guy to hold somebody to comfort them like that but to just listen. At first I couldn’t take that kind of action when I was younger. And I didn’t know how to respond to it with all the emotions involved it made me uncomfortable and I felt bad. But When I got older, I handled it. You can try smiling at him and say hello.
