Whats your opinion on men who take a lot of time and effort into their appearance?

So I've started dating a male model so I get it, if he doesn't keep up with his appearance he's not getting paid and I'm not complaining either but I never realised how much male models have to do before meeting him.

He says its a very competitive industry especially for men as fashion doesn't sell to men like it does with women.

He got scouted whilst working as apprentice tailor so he has a keen interest in fashion and hopes with the right connections in the fashion industry once he gets older he can go more into the design industry.

The only thing it feels a little defeminizing to myself but he has more beauty products and treatments then me. I've never been to a spa in my life, don't get my nails done, I pay like £12 to get my hair cut and use box dye from superdrug and get my eyebrows down some lady in a corner shop lol. Like I'm a pretty girl but I'm not big on spending that kind of money of superficial things and see it as ridiculous.

He got me a gift card for couples spa weekend and it includes stuff like facials and stuff. I didn't know if I should be offended or he was just trying to be nice.

I hate being touched by strangers so a spa weekend sounds like hell to me if I'm brutally honest but he says it will be okay and he will be there with me to help me feel comfortable and relaxed.

He also gets his body waxed and tanned which I find really strange as most men I've been with before have been super natural and I've loved the hairy chests.

He says he doesn't enjoy waxing but it is apart of his job so he has too. I don't get male beauty standards in the fashion industry it feels as if it appeals more to homosexual male more than it does to straight females. Most women I know including myself want Tom Hardy not Joey Essexs.

But all in all I like him for who he is not the way he looks obviously I fancy him but he's not my usual type and he do have a laugh and a joke about this kind of stuff

He sounds metrosexual, which is fine. He can do him. I think it’s completely fine to decide to give a lot of time and attention to one’s appearance — as long as they aren’t an arrogant snob or obnoxious about it, it’s just a personal choice.


And when he offered the spa treatment, I’m sure it was out of the goodness of his heart. It’s something he probably would do on his own anyway, and wanted to invite you to come along.


I enjoy looking nice as well, but I’m also a minimalist. So, although I may own a small handful of tailored suits, I wouldn’t have a large collection of skin care products — only the basics.


He’s probably able to go at length at evaluating different beauty products he has used before. It sounds like a passion of his, but it may bore people who aren’t as invested in that space.


Likewise, I can go at length evaluating different marketing campaigns, going into strategy, system optimization, split testing, tracking codes, conversion rate optimization, etc. Business is a passion of mine, but I know it can bore a lot of people who aren’t interested in learning business.


As long as he has other interests and passions as well, taking care of all his other priorities and responsibilities in his life, he could be perfectly balanced.


But if beauty and beauty products are all he knows, then it may be difficult for others to click with him unless they too are just as invested in that world.


TLDR: I don’t see any issues. As long as it’s not an unhealthy obsession, he can go ahead and do his thing without any judgement from me.

They are either gay as hell, vain as hell, or just fastidious as hell. To be honest, I don't even like being around men who are overly groomed, with every hair perfectly in place. I'd rather hang out with men who work on cars and have grease on their clothes and under their fingernails - I certainly have a lot more respect for them.

I don't feel attracted to men who overdo it. BUT I do want him to put at least little bit of effort. good hygiene is a must! I noticed that people who don't care so much about their appearance tend to be more "dirty" unkempt. I used to think I wanted a man who didn't put effort in their look because then it looks too feminine and gay and that's not attractive, BUT then as I grow older I pay attention to people more and realized that those men who might be super attractive at one point in their lives being careless, eventually it starts to show and they usually don't like to shower often or keep clean around them etc. that is WAY more unattractive and unappealing in sexual way because who wants to have sex with someone who doesn't shower? gross.

so for me if you over do it it's not sexy at all but if you do care here and there and looks like you put at least some effort then it's good! 👍🏻

I don't have any opinion on the guy cos it's his job, he's gotta make money out of it. But if you guys are not really on the same page then I don't think your relationship would last long, the guy is used to being clean all the time so very high chance he would expect you to do the same. If you're comfortable with it then you guys are all fine but if not 🤷‍♀️

This is a good point. Just like if let’s say he was a fitness model that was always taking shirtless pictures for supplement companies and gym wear or something.

He’d have to always be super strict with his diet and exercise, it’ll have to be something he almost obsesses about.

But at that same time, he would need to, because looking good shirtless is literally how he pays his rent.

So whoever he’s with would need to also be accepting of his super strict diet and exercise lifestyle.

Otherwise, it’ll put a strain on the relationship.

That’s the model agency for you. I have a friend that’s a model too and he can tell you stories what he has to go through to make himself look good.
I’m happy for him and it makes him happy but I get it though. It’s insane what they have to do to make themselves look good. I couldn’t do it.
Seems like your boyfriend is happy doing modeling. Yes, there’s going to be things that he’s not going to like doing but he deals with it.
As for the couples spa, that sounds delightful. I don’t think he was being offensive about it. Maybe he thought it was something you both would enjoy.
If he’s not your type, maybe being with him isn’t such a good idea. I don’t know, it’s up to you if you want to stay or not. He sounds like a great guy and he’s happy to have you support him.

There's no reason to feel defeminized. There is nothing inherently feminine nor masculine about using beauty products. I enjoy using beauty products. I use face masks, professional hair products and body lotions. I used to wax, now I am in the middle of undergoing permanent hair removal treatments.

Wax and doing their eyebrows is extreme. I was in a relationship with a guy, I felt he’s more feminine than me. He does his eyebrows, wax and the eyebrows were so thin, mine was thicker 😅
I had insecurities what if I was not feminine enough for him, and I come from country where people are very hairy 😂 it’s difficult to wax all the time and laser is expensive

I do it for me primarily. I don't like being ugly. If the ladies love it, then its basically more motivation for me to keep going and its effort spent well. Double awesome.
