So there’s this new guy who transferred from Korea a couple days ago. He’s made many new friends with the popular guys and is quite sociable with others but mostly quiet on his own. I don’t have any classes with him, BUT I do see him usually every morning in the hallways when we go to our lockers because both of ours are downstairs (which is unusual for my grade).
Anyways, I saw him this morning and I think he saw me for the first time when passing in the hallway, I don’t know if this was a good thing or not, but we made eye contact for a good three seconds before I broke it, looking down at my shoes, then looking back up only to see him looking back… I know this could probably mean nothing at all, but I just want to know if there is any way I could get his attention in the hallways when it’s just me and him more? I really want to get to know him, but I also do feel incredibly bad because I know he is probably overwhelmed with other kids my age talking with him and asking for his name, etc.

Smiling is always a good way to let someone know your open to them. A good way you might start a chat is to just pick an easily answered question you genuinely need to know and ask him openly. Then when answered thank him and introduce yourself.
Best to pick a simple question but make it one you do need to know. The time is always a good opener, but one about classes is better as it has more to possible move you onto a wider interaction. Good luck
keep it simple
