Why would someone who knows you for a long time randomly start talking you and acknowledging you?

For instance class mates, coworkers etc. Who would see you regularly for months but only start greeting or approaching you after months or a year of knowing you. Does it mean the person didn’t find you attractive but learned something about your personality or work ethic that piqued their interest?

Just for whatever reason they didn't really notice you? Maybe something happened in their own life that makes them want to get out of their shell? Could be they were nervous or shy?
