Why do guys leave the bathroom door open when they pee?

i get extremely pissed and peeved when my brother or dad leaves the door open so I can hear the gross stream of urine hitting the toilet water...i swear it's the top of my list of pet peeves.

i mean there are three females in the family and obviously if the bathroom is really close to a female's bedroom, shouldn't he at least close the door when pissing?

For my brother and I, it was always because we mostly had a restroom to ourselves. My sister and mom mostly used the main restroom, which was nicer and cleaner. My brother and I mostly used the utility room / restroom which was not as nice, but my brother and I didn't care. My brother and I really didn't care that much about privacy, and because the restroom is also a utility room, they'll sometimes be in there doing laundry or something while either I or my brother is taking a leak. They don't really seem to care and my brother and I don't. Our sister is older, so she helped raised us along with our mom, so it's not like they haven't seen our junk before. Now I know my sister and my mom on the other hand really value their privacy and would always close and even lock the door when they used their restroom. lol. They've probably seen us in the buff quite a few times over the years, but we've never seen them without any clothes on. I just think in general, most guys don't really care as much about privacy as women.

If it really bothered someone I wouldn't do it when they were around, but usually we do it because w are only going to be there for 7 seconds, you can't see anything and, in my house anyway, the door really doesn't block the sound anyway. But seriously, it's a normal body function, not nearly as obnoxious as, say, a belch or fart, etc.and it really shouldn't be that gross. It's just water sounds.

Guys don't feel that way about it. Remember we pee standing in full rear view and right next to guys all the time at urinals. It's not weird for us.

And? As I said, I (and most other guys I think) would make an effort to do otherwise around someone if it bothered them, but that's or default for peeing. If it were a girl I didn't know or one that I was interested in, I may default to door closed

But for someone as familiar a family, unless asked specifically, I'm probably not putting in extra effort into something most guys consider trivial. It's not our default so we'd have to make an effort to think to shut the door which we wouldn't likely do unless it really bother someone if we didn't.

I'm the only girl in a house of 5 guys and none of them close the door to urinate. I try to ignore it, but it's hard when the bathroom is just at the bottom of the stairs and I have to look right into the bathroom to go down or risk closing my eyes and tripping down stairs.

It's like they don't even care, they angle their body slightly away from the open door and that's enough privacy for them.. ugh..

It doesn't take that much effort to close a door.. Or, ya know, aim properly, or, lifting the toilet seat would be nice, but that's always asking for too much.. -______________-

Haha. What kind of guy doesn't lift the seat to pee? That is gross. And aiming is not ALWAYS that easy... Suffice it to say there at situations where the scope doesn't quite line up to the barrel. But they should clean up after a misfire. Do they not? Because that's gross, too.

They don't when there in a hurry, which is like 80% of the time. When the do stop to clean, they do a quick swipe and just spread it around. I can't count the times I had to shower after getting sticky legs from the toilet seat... FML.

My brothers and dad use to to the same but after all of us girls started doing it too they stopped. I guess something about a chick sitting on a toilet and pissing was not very appealing to them. Now everybody closes the door when they are doing their business and no worries. :)

I'm gonna have to agree EXACTLY with the guy before me. I always close the door and turn on water so no one has to see/hear me do it. The only time I don't is if I'm completely alone.

I'm not sure. I used to do it with the door open, but as I got older I realized people don't wanna have to look at/see me doing my business and I don't want them to see me either so I close the door. I also always put the toilet seat down when I'm done considering I only live with girls.

If the toilet faces the door like mine, it's the difference between a guy's fully clothed back side and a woman's front with her pants and underwear at her ankles. I wouldn't care really if women did it except for family because I really don't want to see my mom/sister/grandmother's last parts by accident. Other than that, it really wouldn't be a big deal to me.

I've also seen women peeing, or even while discarding waste matter, without closing the bathroom door. I believe it depends on how the individual was raised. It's no other than a habit.

For the most part that's true. Growing up my brother and I never really cared that much about it. We were in our underwear most of the time and we didn't always close the door when we did our business, if it was just peeing. My brother and I shared a restroom which was also a utility room, so occasionally my sister or mom would be down there doing laundry while either my brother or I are taking a piss. Our sister is older and she, along with our mom, raised us, so it's not like they haven't seen our junk before. My mom and sister would kill us, if either one of us came into their bathroom while they were using it though. lol.
