Why do guys need to repeat the same story 100 times?

Is it because you like hearing yourself talk? Or you just like that story?

I've never met a woman like this in my life! I have met women who obsess about things or situations.

However, this is like...

"Did I tell you that [so and so] is going to lend [me this amount] [to do this]?"

or

"I showed you my new car right?" Proceeds to tell me every detail again.

or

Guy: "The grapes for my wine were delayed in their shipment..."
Me: "I know you told me" (please God shut up I heard this story 6 times)

or

"Obamacare is such a (insert something)" Hear we go again.

or

"I went to school here, and I use to play at that park" Really? Every time we pass here you have to tell me?

Etc... I could go on and on, but I will save you.

I have come to a few option as to why: They have no one to talk to but me, they love hearing the story over and over again, or they genuinely forget they told me (which I find that one hard to believe).

Unless we have a memorable conversation about a certain story, my boyfriend tends to forget a lot of the stories he's told me, and also which ones he hasn't. Depending on the story, sometimes it's because he's told multiple people and can't keep straight who he told already and who hasn't heard the story yet. I do the same thing every now and then, but he does it more than I do. Either way I don't really mind it, I guess because of how patient I am... sometimes I remind him that I've heard it, other times I just let him tell it.

My dad is much worse, he repeats the same stories and things every day... I think it's just because of how old he's getting.

I think enjoying talking about something may also have something to do with it. Or maybe they're just trying to make conversation, and fall back on something familiar to get it started.

Could be an honest mistake or that they're trying to get your opinion. Emphasis, nothing else to talk about, overly passionate about it, etc. However, this is NOT restricted to one gender since I've known several girls who say the same thing over and over like a broken machine. I've even tested it with trigger words to which they respond with the same story as before. You should replace the word "guys" with "people" and acknowledge that you've experienced some form of bias.

I said "some guys" and I acknowledged that women "obsess" about things in the description. I don't think they repeat stories like, "I bought this mascara for $50 and then the wand broke the next day" I rarely meet women like this.

It's possible they have not had much experience with relationships that last any real length of time, and either don't have a life-time of actual stories to tell, or aren't used to having someone around long enough for them to repeat themselves.

It's the particular guy. Believe me, not every guy is like that. Personally I know a girl that is like that. Yes, definitely can get frustrating.

Maybe they have bad memories and don't realize they've told you. I think men have worse memories than women anyway, don't they?

lol. No, the two guys that enabled me to ask this question are polar opposites. One of them has nothing in their life. The other actually has a lot in his life (opening a new office in Rockefeller Center, Owns a small wine company (that he invented the receipt), two kids, a wife, the wealthiest friends you can imagine (I am talking 0.1% of the world wealthy), restores classic cars, etc. Honestly, he's the one that is driving me crazy. It's really cool hearing the story the first and second time, but after the 3rd time I start getting tension headaches).

Well sometimes you have a story you think is really interesting and you forget who you have told it to, though after three tellings you would be justified in commenting about it when he starts to tell it again.
