How do I lose weight after what happened?

Okay everyone, I've been battling some personal issues since last January that resulted in me losing a lot of weight and then gaining it back plus double. Long story short last January my house burnt down and I was such a mess I wouldn't eat, after a few months I started eating again and gained the weight back that I had lost, but I recently weighed myself and notice that I had gained double the weight I lost and I look like a whole new mess. I've already started eating healthier and drinking more water than soda. But I was hoping that you guys could help me by suggesting some exercises that I can try to lose about 30 pounds. I have a yoga mat and an elliptical in my apartment so if you have any suggestions that use them that would be wonderful.
