How much skin should be between the piercing bars on a naval/belly button peircing?

Anonymous
I have had my naval piercing for almost 6 months now when I first got it there was so much skin in between the balls that I couldn't see the bar. That shrunk. And there is a lot of the bar. I thought of rejection I also have redness on the top hole. Which move from the left side to the right. This red is not light though it is not painfully or sore it's dark like a small bruise and only on the right side of the whole. Anyway I don't have pain, flaking, dryness, itchyness or puss.
I went back to my precessional piercer who told me a had a small infection and to clean it with soap then do the salt water spray
However I've been going this and the redness has not gone away, or lessened.
She didn't say it was rejecting just that there was a small infection. However when I look online the small infections are bright red and the ones that are called bad or really infected. Look like mine as in redish purple, the skin has not gotten any smaller it is not flany it is not painful and it if not bloody or has puss.
So what gives? How much skin NEEDS to be in between the holes or bars? And how bad is my infection?
She also said it could haveasily been the jewlery I have and she changed the metal I was peirced with to something else
