To Guys that do gym and lift weights, Do you completely block out fun meals?

Do you completely block out sugar and everything and just focus mainly on your desired shape? Or you have fun meals too while getting it like beer and stuff? I am asking this because my boyfriend just started it and he's getting real deep about it. I don't know if he could take that much but he have cancelled our date because it wasn't his cheat day date he planned lol
