If you did something that drove your son/daughter (as a whole or in part) to attempt suicide would you want top know about it?

My parents sent me to a mental hospital against my will. It was for depression but it only made it much worse and in my compromised state of mind it caused PTSD. Because they did that when I became suicidal for other reasons I refused to seek help and even attempted suicide via a triple overdose of pills. I survived because I threw up and I was alone when it happened so no one knew about it. I did start seeing a psychiatrist for my issues but it seems that the prolonged untreated bouts of stress that led me to commit suicide may have caused serious psychological damage that will cause a lifelong battle with depression.

So if something you did to your child drove them to attempt suicide would you want to know?

yes, i definitely want to know, we are humans and making mistakes and sometimes we dont realize until we are told. Talking about is what resolves the problems. However, when you say they drove you to suicide , is that because they sent you to a mental hospital? If yes i am gona say to you that they probably though they doing the best to help you. Maybe in their mind thats what you needed so try to understand their position too. Talk and listen to eachother

Struggling with my life drove me to attempt it BUT because they sent me I refused to seek help for my suicidal thoughts/depression.

As for what happened when I was sent to the hospital; I was struggling with depression at the time so they told me that they decided to send me to the mental hospital. I refused so they called the police and I ran away but they found me and took me away in handcuffs. However my stay at the hospital only made my depression worse and we later found out that I had a disorder that's usually only made worse by depression and what would have otherwise been a minor depressive episode turned into a year long one. On top of that the experience left me with PTSD.

I hope they're proud of themselves.

This is a grey area. I personally would never send my child to a mental hospital unless if i had exhausted every other possible solution . As a parent you want the very best for your child, i am certain that they never meant to cause you any harm and you should try to understand this. Involving police and chasing you and all that must have been horrible for you but i think it wasn't easy for them either. I am not taking anyones side but as a parent i am telling you that there isn't any book to tell you how and when to do all the right things and sometimes we get it wrong. Do not hold resentment , talk with them and explain to them and try to come up with a solution, parents are usually the only people who will be there for us when everyone else turns its back

It's hard not to hold resentment and I think it was cowardly of them. But it did seem pretty easy for them to pick up the phone and call the police. But how would you feel if you did that and it only made your childs' depression worse and caused them PTSD?
Also as for this cliche argument that you shouldn't hold grudges if they had good intentions, I'm a firm believer that good intentions that aren't followed by good actions are simply meaningless.
