I know you guys are not doctors, but do you know someone or yourself that this has happened too?

My dad has never had a seizure before. He is a diabetic. Chronic knee pain, hip is dislocated because they think he has deterioration in his disc. So he's in a lot of pain and under a lot of stress. They recently upgraded his dose of gabapentin from 300 to 600 mg. So that's some back ground info. Anyway, we were unusually active that day, went to the fireworks. Four hours after the fireworks, his whole body was shaking uncontrollably. His blood sugar was fine and he was coherent, he was answering questions and everything. They did several tests over a 4 day span, an mri, ekg, eeg, 6 blood tests, urine and a cat scan. They all came back normal. He was having multiple seizures in the hospital lasting between 6 mins to 20 seconds. Anyone have an idea what is going on?

1) You shouldn't rely on medical advice from here.

2) He should be evaluated further by a licensed physician

That said, it sounds like seizures and I would look into getting marijuana or CBD liquid and that should remedy the seizures by nearly 100%.

You should definitely get a second or third opinion, but it really does sound like seizures to me and the marijuana is phenomenal for reducing seizures - CBD is the active ingredient in marijuana that reduces the seizures, but it will not get you high if taken by itself.

I should also point out that having low blood sugar can cause seizures, and if his blood sugar at some point dropped very low, the effects could last far past him bringing it back up and I think that's what is happening here.

I am not sure his blood sugar through out that day but it was fine 10 minutes before it happened. He had been evaluated, they seem to be stumped. :/ thank you so much.

If they did ALL the tests and they all came back negative, then I would assume that he was not having seizures, since that would have been something they tested for. Get a doctor to answer this question.

That's what they registered it as, seizures. Thank you! I have no knowledge of seizures.

Once you gain a knowledge about seizures, you will find that you still don;t know. lol My daughter has seizures that appear to be stokes. We had to have tests done to show they were not strokes and so seizures was the diagnosis. You said that is what they "registered" as. On what did they "register"?

My brother has Type 1 Diabetes and he had a seizure once. His was due to extremely low blood sugar though and when we got it stabilized, he was okay. If your dad's blood sugar was normal at the time, and the all of his other tests came back normal, then I'm not sure what it could be. I think you may just have to wait and see what his doctors say. I'm sure they will want to run different tests and find other ways to figure out what is causing his seizures.

That's odd then. Well, I certainly hope his doctors can figure out what's going on and that your dad will be okay!

There are so many things that could be going on. You left out his age and a lot of other important info. he could be shaking from convulsions which can be caused by gabapentin, but he's alert and answering questions, so that's a little unlikely. My best guess is that whatever caused him to have a seizure in the first place, is now causing him to shake.

The bottom line is that he's getting medical attention and they will figure out the problem. Don't worry.
