Bad breath and frequent dry mouth?

So I don't know what this is but it didn't start until recently. I noticed that I suffer from bad breath and frequent dry mouth. I brush my teeth thoroughly, twice a day and still, even after brushing I have a foul taste in my mouth. I also have really bad dry mouth. This past summer I started smoking weed (I stopped) and within the past 6 months I've smoked maybe 4 cigarillos. Could it be the smoking? Help... My dad has HORRIBLE breath (he doesn't smoke) and my sister sometimes experiences the same thing. Could it be hereditary? I'm really self conscious and I've run out of ways to control this issue. I probably spend $30 a month on gum, mints, special toothpastes etc.

Smoking could be a big reason why you're experiencing this. You need to brush your teeth 3 to 4 times a day after each meal, not only twice, because in your case twice is not enough. When brushing your teeth, brush your tongue as well, removing bacteria from your tongue can help reduce bad breath. Keep your mouth moisturized by drinking plenty of water. As far as diet goes, you want to avoid foods with a strong odor like onion and garlic. Red meat causes bad breath too, so if you consume a lot from it, reduce your red meat intake. Eat lots of carbs and vitamin C. It's good you're using special toothpastes and mints. I suggest using mouthwash, breath spray, and flossing, I think they're more effective than chewing gum. Never give up on your oral health, and everything will be fine sooner than you realize. :)
