Any tips?

I'm trying out for volleyball in high school and just wondering if anyone had any tips on techniques and such

Hey:) I play volleyball so I'm pretty sure I could help you with anything. It would help me though if you gave more details. Like what position are you planning on playing? I've played every position so except setter but I still know a little about setting. What are your weaknesses? I'll try to help.

I think I wanna be setter or middle blocker. My main weakness is bumping the ball I can't get it to go in right direction ever and I don't know how I want to position my hands when I do it.

Okay. Well if you want to be a setter or middle blocker then you won't be bumping very much. But just make sure your arms are straight and square your shoulders in the direction you want the ball to go. I usually make a fist with one hand and put my other hand around it. It's harder to explain how to set. You might just need to go on YouTube for that. Blocking, you have to be able to jump and move fast so you can get to where the ball is about to spiked quickly.

Yea I put my hands like that when I bump it but my arms always are to far apart. I think seting is pretty easy most of the time. Yea, I just got taught how to block and I'm doing pretty good so far it's liek my fave part volleyball so far. Just wondering if you don't mind how do you serve? I serve over hand with the palm of my hand but my hand is ruff after I don't know y. did you play in high school?

Yeah I'm a junior in high school now. I've played since I was in 7th grade. Everyone serves differently. Most people have something specific that they do before each serve. Kinda like a rythem I guess to get it over. Like for me, I bounce the ball twice, spin it, and then toss. The toss is the biggest thing. Make sure it's a good toss, if it's not just let it drop and try again because if it's z bad toss, you more then likely won't get it over.

Oh and I also serve over handed. With my whole hand, fingers spread apart and it helps to keep your hand stiff. At least for me anyway.

Yea, I'm gonna be a freshman. For my rythem I usually just bounce it twice in this basketball style. What position do you play? by the way you can stop me if I'm asking to many questions

Lol it's not to many questions. I normally play back row but sometimes my coach has me play as an outside hitter as well.

Cool I don't really know the positions that well yet. Do jump when you serve then hit it? I just learned that and its easy and the coach looked at me like I was awesome or something lol.

Lol I can do it but I don't do it in games because for me, its not as accurate as keeping my feet on the ground. Haha I usually do it in practice just for fun though. Are you tall? I'm pretty short, like I can hit and spike really well but idk, my jump serves don't go over very often I assume because of my height. lol I'm only 5'4

With shoes I'm 5'8. I just learned how to spike and block it comes pretty easy actually. I don't know if I should keep practicing jumping and serving or not. when I'm on the ground serving if I don't toss it high enough it doesn't go over or doesn't go far which sucks. I think I have the bumping down kinda I always end up hitting my fist instea dof my arms.

Well if your jump serves are better than your regular serves then you should keep doing that. Do what you're good at. And fir bumping, you kinda just have to keep your eye on the ball and judge the distance do you hit it in the right spot.

The jump serve wasn't very accurate so my instructor person showed me how to serve better now its easy and its like a spike. And yea yer right about judging the distance for bumping I think its getting easier to do now. Sadly camps over I wanna keep practicing and such though. This doesn't have to do with volleyball but did your first year of high skol suck?

Oh I see. No, my freshman year was actually very good. I live in a small town so my school is pretty small and I've known and gone to school with the same people since I was 5. So I already knew everybody basically. My freshman year, there was only about 600 people in the whole school. And bullying wasn't a problem either. I knew a lot of upperclassmen that helped me a lot.

Your lucky. each grade in my school has 500 kids. So if you don't have classes with any of yer friends you won't see them at all that year. It sucks but you meet a lot ppl

Yea, I think you're the lucky one. Lol It sucks being in such a small town and school that everyone knows your business and it's impossible to keep secrets, tell one person and the whole school knows the next day. There is also a lot of drama, since it's not many kids, there are a lot of cliques and drama between everybody.

Yeah but news gets around fast in any school and must be cool knowing everyone. Every school has cliques and drama its hard to avoid but with smaller town it must suck. My middle school was like 60 years old and they haven't done anything new to it. Kinda nervous since a lot of my friends went to different high schools. what state you live in I'm in Massachusetts

Yeah that's true. My school is very old too but there are only four schools in my county. Lol So I've been with the same people forever. Haha I'm in Virginia.

Ask Jimmy Weston two lockers over. He has a real good tip for you. It may require some squatting and grunting and about three pounds of lube.

why don't you try going to youtube and search for volleyball videos?
