What makes a girl fun and makes you want to be with?

I've seen a lot of guys dating "ugly" (or less pretty girls) because of their great personality. I'm really happy for them , at the same time I'm wondering what makes a girl fun? and that makes you want to be with them?

for example, like Matt Damon and his wife...

and recently I know a guy friend of mine asked a overweight girl out because she's a lot of FUN but got turned down...(mind you a lot of girls have crush on him...)

just to clarify, my friend is very confident, he's cute but skinny, not hot, a lot of very beautiful girls fall for his confidence and personality, he dated a model before but only because " she was a lot of fun to be with"

They are positive, fun, energetic, smart, a little crazy but not too "blonde" and almost always optimistic.

Because they are not attractive they have to compensate it with other character traits.

I would rather date a cute/attractive girl who is energetic, fun and smart than date a girl who is gorgeous but can't keep up with my conversation.

maybe your guy friend isn't confident enough with beautiful girls and has to settle with a less attractive one

i can't think of anything, I am sorry. I never asked an overweight or "not very attractive" girl out

I remember I was on a party and a couple of girls came up to me. One asked me to try cream from a cake and when I was about to bite it she pushed it on my face. I didn't get mad because she was my good friend and I actually liked it :)
