I read about it and was happy to hear that the bill fell through. We all know that obesity is a problem in the US. I happen to live in the third fattest state, which is Alabama, and can see what it is doing to people and especially obese kids. The problem is, this bill was completely outrageous. Legislators were basically asking restaurateurs to enforce a law that would cost them business. Without businesses, people lose jobs and unemployment is a big issue in the US also. The public does not like to feel controlled by the government. I know when the no smoking ban was passed in the city I live, many non-corporate restaurants went out of business within months.
I know they had good intentions, but they went about it in the wrong way. If people can't eat unhealthy food in a restaurant, then they will cook unhealthy food at home, so where does the law go next? Will Walmart be told they can not sell certain foods to obese people? Yeah I would love to hear that conversation.
Then you have to look at the vast amount of law suits that would have come from this law. It is rare, but there are certain conditions and medications that cause weight gain, How were they going to verify the reason a person was obese? Not to mentions the cries of discrimination!

first of all obamacare.. obama cares about nothing. that's ridiculoius they would pass such a law. this is 2011 people good lord. I never heard of anything like this before! those businesses will lose allllllot of money then. because overweight people have loved ones who aren't overweight and a lot of them won't want to go somewhere there loved ones aren't wanted. health insurance, don't bring that into this. they pay for insurance just like everyone else. and barrack hussein obama ain't helping crap
Because there is no tolerance for fat people anymore. We now have government healthcare in America (Obamacare) and if the government (taxpayers) are paying for this, they don't want to shell out money to fat people for all their complications. One way of doing this is to cut out fast food and the drive-through. It's insane. This is America and as long as I pay taxes I will eat what ever the f*** I want, drive through whatever line I want to, and be as fat as I want to. Plus the media basically condemns you for being fat. Reality television and the internet give people a jaded image of what they "should" look like and what their "ideal" partner should be. Why do you think there are so many single people? Plus single early 30's people. They are sick of the games. They are sick of the expectations.
Well, from a social standpoint, obese people cost the society billions every year in lost revenue and wealth generation. If you die before you're 40, society loses out on 25-35 years of wealth generation and personal spending, not to mention that obese people health expenses could be used to purchase stuff and services. If 33% of adults are obese - not overweight, obese - and almost 45% of children of 10-17 years of age are as well, it represents an unimaginable loss for the state of Mississippi.
I don't know if it's a smart move refusing them service at restaurants, but communities lose enough resources to obesity that something has to be done.

I don't see the point, because as soon as they get turned away from the restaurant, they're just going to go to Mcdonalds or some other place. It not gonna do anything except make a few fat people feel crappy about themselves, which I'm sure they probably already do.
Maybe they're getting tired of them breaking the furniture. They're the ones choosing to live unhealthy lifestyles so they have to deal with the consequences whether that be health problems, buying 2 plane tickets, or being told they can't eat places.
They shouldn't be. If they wanna be fat let them. Less Government!
But I'm a little more hardcore about things. I want heroine to be legal with no rehab centers. Its called survival of the fittest an let people do what they want.Well obesity is a bit of an epidemic and I think Mississippi has the highest percentage of obese people right now. However, if someone wants to die of a heart attack at the age of 36, who are we to say "no"? I think the government should just tax them more for eating fatty foods like they do with cigarettes.
Well I work at a restaurant as a hostess and a lot of fat people can't fit in the booths. Just sayin. lol
But naw I don't believe that. They can't discriminate like that.Hahaha! Oh, that's too damn funny! People get butt hurt about everything, not just others' weight. It's because people are stupid.
The nation is too fat, they need to go. Stop eating so much and stop getting sick/illnesses that can be prevented. Lazy people p*ss me off.
Are they going to force underweight people to eat in restaurants? lol Hypocrites.
Any person should have the right to spend money on whatever they choose. If the product harms them that is there problem it is there money there choice.
maybe b'cos they break the chairs on which they sit & eat up all the food!...(jk)
