Complacent or nervous when seeing someone wearing a mask?

When the SARS2 (COVID-19) pandemic first started, many people were nervous seeing another person wearing a mask, thinking that maybe they were contagious. As time went on, and most people wore masks, we all got used to the idea. Now that the pandemic is winding down (some contend it's no longer a pandemic but a less severe endemic), there seem to be very few people wearing masks.

When you see a person wearing a mask, are you complacent (no big deal) or nervous (wondering why are they wearing a mask when it may no longer be needed) ?

Neither- I get angry. Those stupid things are a relic of the line of thought that the virus could be eradicated if we simply delayed infecting others for a long enough time period. That was obviously incorrect from the beginning; even if you make every human on Earth virus-free, you can't isolate every BAT. Once it became obvious that the fatality rate, and even the hospitalization rate, was only a fraction of what was initially feared, the terror SHOULD have passed, but it didn't.

Someone wearing one of those damned things today is someone signalling loyalty to a discredited ideal- with one key difference. Promoting phrenology or communism doesn't DIRECTLY hurt people. Hiding your face not only leaves you weaker for lack of exposure to germs (meaning when you DO catch something, it'll be harder to fight it off), making you weaker, but it leaves your face unreadable. We're going to see SERIOUS developmental delays in young children, who grew up without learning necessary social cues ON TOP OF crippling allergies from lack of exposure. You think Gen Z'ers had horrible rates of potentially lethal peanut allergies? That was NOTHING on what's coming next.

Society decided to engage in a massive Milgram experiment, and almost every last person failed miserably. The one upside is that most people have finally come out of it- they won't admit their mistake; it was always "they did [x]", never "we", but at least they're not contributing to the damage any more. The mask-wearers still ARE.

When I see a person wearing a mask now, my immediate thought is to wonder whether they are part of the covid paranoid class that has been created by Fauci, the CDC, and the Biden Administration. But then I realize that the person may have some conditions and place them at signidficant risk and the mask may be a quite sensible precaution.

In around Feb of 2020, the first time I saw two people with masks on, was when I was turning into a parking lot of a Home Depot store and a car came in as well, with two people wearing masks. It wasn't common then (in NJ) but later on March everyone wore one. I remember looking in awe, and wondering, "Uh oh, wow! This is scary."

So nowadays when I still amwearting my masks at stores and see no one but a few are, I feel ok.

I don’t think about it I’m vaccinated and I haven’t caught Covid yet I was even around my boyfriend when he had Covid and it was undiagnosed like we were kissing and everything but I didn’t get it nor did I get it from anyone else yet. It’s serious and I’ll continue to keep up to date on the shot but unless masks become mandatory again I’m not gonna wear one

Same as before. You instinctively know the difference between someone covering their faces to avoid recognition and someone concerned about their health.

It’s their choice. I don’t think about it much either way.  An endemic is an outbreak that is limited to certain areas. A pandemic is global. It’s still a pandemic.

If they don’t engage with me, I see no need to engage with them. My game plan should one engage with me about masking is to say “baa” and walk away. Their move for what happens next.

I tend to feel sorry for those people who have been so brainwashed into thinking they have to wear one to be safe. But if they are wearing them due to company mandates, then that's another story
