- The CDC recommends that obese children get weight reduction surgery
+1 yUnless that kid has a health condition there is no way that this kid should be in this position. The parents should be disciplined enough to make sure they eat healthy and the kid should be outside playing in the sun with friends (or in the snow 🤷). If a kid is fat and they don't have a health condition I blame the parents completely.
And honestly? I'm going to go with no. I knew a kid this age that was overweight. And at a young age committed himself to weight loss and shed it in the span of about 2 years (I think?). And parents SHOULD commit their kids to a healthy diet to make sure they aren't obese at a young age. They can still eat junk food! But make sure they are eating healthy most of the time.

All an obese kid needs is good diet and exercise. The only reason they are fat is bad parenting. I bet that their mothers and/or fathers, are morbidly obese and eat the worst shit. The kids may suffer from other psychic trauma, too.32 Reply
1.1K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I think maybe at age 13 if they had some liposuction, maybe a little bit, I would say yes to that to try and get a handle on weighing so much.
Then of course eating habits must change as well.
The reason I said yes to the surgery is of course it's not healthy for the child, but also because some kids that are overweight get bullied and beat up. So it's for physical well being, as well as mental health for the child.12 Reply- +1 y
The widespread obesity in this country is a symptom of a greater problem. People do not get enough physical exercise. Kids might be the worst offenders. Everyone spends too much time on the internet or playing video games. I never see kids in my neighborhood playing in the street like I did. Kids do not walk to school anymore.

Thats more of a phone long conversation.
But all comes from parenting like many have shared.
When I hear moms say, oh, my kid doesn't like this, doesn't want to eat that. Well, thats the problem. We have kids ruling the adult world. I just fear where this is going.
We prob. have a lot of functioning families. (consider abnormal)
The dysfunctions are normal. So kids getting weight reduction surgery is going to be the norm eventually. (and who will be paying?) Just like the US in debt is normal. etc...

It takes 150 tries for a baby to like a new food.
My daughter never wanted salad till more recently. She has opened her options more to new food. So it may take time. Lightbuld is opening up to a whole lot of adventure to foods around the world :)
You should join us to some fun food adventures someday. :)
Your mom did the right thing for not making an alternate meal for you. Most do nowadays then complain how tire they are and have to cook all the time.
I also don't allow food in the bedrooms. Bedrooms are only for the mind and the soul to rest and have privacy. Kids do their work in the office. - +1 y
I am sure my mother would have taken a dim view of my food stash I had in my closet.
I have been a picky eater all my life. About 10 years ago I decided I wanted to try different foods. We went to many different restaurants and I ordered lots of different meals. I hated them all. After doing this 10-15 times I just felt stupid spending all that money on a meal that I hated. - +1 y
My son, didn't want to eat the food I made at 7. He wanted pasta. I said he can make it himself. He took a step stool. I took out the pasta and pot. He poured in the pasta into the dry, empty pot lol. Well, he learned it was hard to make food. So he ate. Now they do make their own and clean after themselves if they want something different. :)

You are doing well (not needing weight reduction surgery lol...) and life is working out for you thats what matters.
However, kids can be train to some level of eating healthy and be more active to avoid future health problems. - +1 y
You have a good Sunday.
We are off to the city to have some sashimi lol
Lightbulb is not there yet, but is open to other cooked foods.

+1 yOnly as a last resort and after counseling, exercise, food modification all fail collectively.
Much preferred way - Start exercising and drinking water. After a couple of months after the body develops a calorie deficit and starts burning fat mass and building muscle mass, then start cutting back on the calories to force even more inch loss.
00 Reply No, I am in the dietetics industry and weight loss surgery is not necessary for children as much as teaching children good eating habits and making sure your kids are exercising. Surgery should not substitute for poor parenting. I want to see the source that recommends this

@exitseven lol the issue is, even the cdc wants to make money , that’s why doctors and pharmaceuticals run the entire company.
- +1 y
@exitseven they make money off of suggesting surgery to children also, especially because surgery seems like the easiest way out. Very sad.
- +1 y
@kylee2437 A lot of parents are so crazy they will find a doctor who will do the surgery. People think that this surgery is like magic. It is not without problems.
+1 yI've heard this the other day and it's fucked up as fuck. Depopulation written all over itself.
How about stop shoving CHEMICALS IN OUR WATER and turning the freakin foods dead? DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION AS MUCH AS YOUR FOOD IS PROCESSED?
CRAP!
They're thinking at this point they can say whatever the fuck and IT'S NOT FUNNY. People are too unfit to go after them with pitchforks. I'm sick of eating genetically engineered foods.

Parents should rather teach change their kids diet and also give them occasional treats and encourage them to go out and play with their kids or take their kids out to go jogging or play some sports with them. This way they will get healthier and the weight losing process won't be as bad. It can be fun
20 ReplyHow bad does it have to get for that to be the case? They should get new parents. No offense intended but a 10 year old should npt ever be obese to the point of needing surgery. That is a parental failure.
Of course if their lives are at risk surgery is preferable. But the solution really should be new habits.30 Reply- 426 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
u +1 yThey shouldn't have to be needing them in the first place.

+1 yItsad the child is at the stage where that is a legitimate option. Parenting has failed, and will continue to fail after the surgery. Unless the patents get serious counseling, it won't work.
30 Reply 906 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. No they should not lol this is how they start the 🤡🌎 BS acting fake concern for obese kids and then it become gender surgeries.
Kids can lose Weight three times faster then a full grown adult they do not surgery.

+1 yAbsolutely not. They are too young to have surgery. Diet and exercise is best for a child

@exitseven that's the sad part. Social media is making kids fat
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yMust be very extreme obesity for surgery. Usually a strict diet and exercise will help
11 Reply522 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Yeah well. crack and meth isn't too good for kids.
Though it might be cheaper than weight reduction surgery in the USA!
10 ReplyChanging the way food is processed would be a better way to prevent obesity and other illnesses. Eliminating video games so that people would benefit from physical activity.
But the government doesn’t want to blame the root cause because it doesn’t make anyone any money.00 Reply- 801 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
+1 ygenerally not, maybe in extreme scenarios. Like most surgeries, it should be minimal if at all.
eat right, exercise a lot, no sitting around. Goes to show CDC is is full of baloney!

+1 yMy first thought was "No." but then considering how many kids around that age who might outweigh me (6'2, 195) I think, "Maybe."
10 Reply 871 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Don’t know. Pretty sure these medical questions are best left to specific patients. But all the chemicals in food and pollution in cities have had some diverse effects which this surgery could help.
I think if the issue is behavior it should be solved by behavior change. If it’s chems or thyroid bs whatever, medical procedures are fine. That’s just a base read tho.00 Reply
+1 yNo.
Weight reduction surgery puts a tremendous amount of strain on the vital organs, particularly the heart.
The weight must be lost naturally through exercise.00 Reply
+1 yIf people are going to freak out about kids getting sex changes because of ethical reasons, the same can be applied to weightloss surgery.

+1 yNo. They should get exercise.
Schools need to stop cutting out P. E and recess. Yes, it doesn't give you an "education," but it's still important for human development.00 Reply
+1 yNo. They’re are just kids and they can make their decision when they get older or join gym and many physical activities they love that will help them lose weight.
00 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Depends on the indications and possible complications from the procedure and from the obesity. There is no one-size-fits-all answer here.

I coached soccer for 11 years and there were plenty of kids who were very overweight. I was a fat kid when I was little but not like these kids. Needless to say these kids did not get much exercise. The less they did , the less they could do in the future until they were just big couch potatoes.

@msc545 I grew up in the 70s and there was not the obesity and the kids on medication that we have today. In elementary school the "nurse" was really the princilal's secratry. Now every school had an RN on staff and they have a cabinet with kids medication and they dispense the meds. Most of this is for hyperactivity. Instead of disciplining the kids they keep them doped up. Kids do not walk anywhere. Everyone takes the bus or gets driven to and from school. Every kid in my neighborhood had to walk to school every day. We rode out bikes all over the place. I never see kids riding bikes in my neighborhood. The kids are all indoors on social media or playing video games. They constantly get takeout food and sugar and processed food. No wonder tjhe y are all fat.
