Long story short: No. you will strengthen your abs n core muscles to help you do planks for longer and longer but to say belly fat shrinkage will occur form planks alone is iffy but there are still great benefits from doing planks!
’ll tell you straight up! I bike to and from work 2 miles each trip for over a year! Haha you’d assume that would have lost weight from that… No, it sadly don’t be like that.😭 Not that I’m in die hard need to lose weight but, being slightly out of shape for a while made me assume biking to work would have me loose some fat.. i’ll tell you straight up from personal experience… my body just has gotten used to the biking an it doesn’t replace working out entirely. I must mention that this whole time I never changed my diet drastically.
I’ll mention my thoughts on planks but, if losing weight is the goal (especially in the belly area) I can’t say cardio is he absolute way. I’d more so recommend doing full body exercises where it is unquestionable that you feel kinda fatigued all throughout ur body with out putting too much on your body so ur also able to something heavy tomorrow/ next time. Anything will do! Just think why activities you like doing that involves a major group of muscles or exercises that requires lots of full body movement. If worst come to worse even walking for long distances (an hour or more) is proven to lose weight but if you don’t have an extra hour to spare I will recommend some great exercises that are full body, sprinting a fast as you can, biking, swimming, push up, pull ups, squats even with just body weight and definitely any sport that requires back and forth running like soccer or basketball. M personal rule of thumb is if your shirt is sweaty as fuck your doing it right and maybe don’t stop till ur short is drenched in sweat. The two ultimate fat/calorie burning exercises I’ll recommend for when in doubt situations are 5 min jump rope sech. Or n can be combined with burpees as many as you can do with perfect form! Legit burpees too with a proper push-up to explosive jump as high a you can!
Here’s a thought! Why not do exactly planks for a month and record your progress as you go? Then share your results.
I personally don’t do planks like crazy mostly because I do pushups which are basically planks with pushing and I personally get more out of pushups from the idea of pushing myself to achieve hypertrophy (muscle growth).
Still do planks! I can’t say that planks are a pointless exercise because it still involves a great matter of “time over tension” and I enjoy exercising and studying different forms and techniques. I’m definitely not a professional, but my guess of what a plank actually is, is actually multiple things going on from a simple lack of movement. The idea behind doing planks is to stay in the plank position for as long as you can end by pushing yourself to stay in the plank position, will push your core muscles to the ultimate of how long you can hold your body up without rest. You will definitely gain core strength, but I also believe it will not shrink belly fat necessarily, and could possibly build muscle underneath belly fat that already exists creating a bigger looking belly.
I definitely dabbled we’re doing planks in my life. I will suggest that 2 to 3 minutes straight planking is already setting the bar pretty high but I know that is perfectly OK and I wouldn’t shoot for even a minute the first couple times or first week. doing a minute plank is hard for a beginner and I would set the goal at 30 to 45 seconds. Also, I would highly recommend 3 to 4 sets of the same thing while pushing yourself to see if you can really last a minute. An exercise like this is great mentally because you will have an idea of how long you push yourself and by doing it often you will know yourself more and how much you actually can push yourself as it will get easier. As the workouts get easier, you either have to add more time to your planks and since you’re already stronger, you can definitely add more various movements to your exercise.
People say this, and that about training your abs, and how you can train your abs every day. some people say that you don’t lose belly fat from ab training when I think that is super false because the people with the craziest best abs also have extreme ab and core exercises. I will say if you’re trying to achieve a flat stomach, definitely include a balance of slightly ab workouts, some cardio or extreme sweat exercise, no unnecessary foods with a slight Scarface of shooting for healthier foods. For example, force yourself to eat oatmeal or salad.. for real eliminate soda, drink water. I do very well at eating what I want, but I kind of force myself to eat healthy things where I actually feel more entitled to eat whatever the hell I want also, knowing how much work I put out of my body. Good sleep is also a great tip you grow a lot of muscle and synthesize a lot of protein and your sleep and you also burn a lot of calories sleeping sleeping also recovers your body the best for the next day and getting great sleep ensures replenishment of the body.00 Reply

The best way to lose fat is to eat right and less. Fast days help.
I was kind of fat going on obese growing up. That's because my mother fed me too much of all the wrong foods. Took me a while but I realised eventually that you don't need a whole lot of food. Breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. Fast food is addiction. Currently I eat one meal a day and it's a good healthy meal. Sugar is an addiction too and fattening. Stop drinking soda pops and energy drinks, people in America drunk this by the bucket and wonder why they are obese and have diabetes. Cut of dairy and bread. Cut out processed meats. Avoid snack foods.
Eat meals like Steamed brocoli & chicken (grill the chicken & add hot sauce to the brocoli to make it eatable. Eat eggs. Eat rice. Eat salads. Eat spaghetti or pasta. Eat a mix of vegetables with your Sunday roast, fill up on veg. If you are going to eat red meat make sure its a good steak. Ultimately its all about portion control.
Exercise can help lose weight but without a good diet you will just be a very fit fat man.
Planks will help develop a strong core which helps with a lot of other exercises and though It doesn't burn fat it does kind of flatten your stomach out a bit. A great piece of advice I got from swartznager on YouTube was to stand up straight and suck in your gut.

+1 yThat is what they say and the advantage of a plank is that it works your entire body and can be done in under 3 minutes a day. I taught the exercise to my therapist since he is too busy to spend hours doing exercise at a gym.

I don't ask. We don't have time to discuss those things in such a short session.

Get a fucking outdoor physical job and you'll be running after calories trying to eat enough. Unless the current one pays too well.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yEngaging in regular exercise, including planks, can contribute to overall weight loss and body fat reduction. However, it's important to note that spot reduction, specifically targeting belly fat by performing a specific exercise, is not possible. Fat loss occurs throughout the body as a result of creating a calorie deficit, which means burning more calories than you consume.
Planks are an excellent exercise for strengthening your core muscles, including the abdominal muscles. By building muscle, you can increase your overall metabolic rate and potentially contribute to fat loss. However, for significant belly fat reduction, it's crucial to incorporate a well-rounded fitness routine that includes cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and a healthy, balanced diet.
Additionally, the duration of your plank exercise may need to be increased to see noticeable results in terms of belly fat reduction. Two to three minutes of planking per day is a good start for building core strength, but for more significant fat loss, you may need to incorporate longer durations or increase the intensity of your workouts.
Remember, maintaining a healthy lifestyle involves a combination of regular exercise, proper nutrition, and consistency over time. It's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a certified fitness trainer who can provide personalized guidance based on your specific goals and needs.
10 ReplyThe thing is, you can't spot reduce fat.
You can't choose where you lose fat first, you just gotta keep a consistent routine and over time you'll lose the fat, one part at a time.
Planks are great for strengthening your core so don't stop doing that.
But overall, just make sure you're eating right and try to get in at least half an hour of physical exercise, either cardio or weight training. Mainly take it slow. That gives your body the time to adjust to changes and you're more likely to keep the fat off on the long term.23 Reply

1.1K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. hmm. I'm sure any exercise is helpful.
But probably general lifestyle is more important.
Like what kinds of foods are you eating, and in what volume.
And how active are you on a day to day basis? Ie I have 4 heavy workouts per week (2.5 hours of strength training today). And I do lots of other stuff throughout a day ie walking and stretching.

Asker+1 yI do walk around 4km daily and hv 3 cardio sessions of 1 hr each weekly and 3 strength trainings
Asker+1 yWoww… actually weight is not a big concern… only the belly fat is not going…
+1 yMaybe, depends on your plank technique. Cycling is good also squats, combination of working the muscle in different ways is best. (Retired international athlete)

+1 yNo, you can't spot reduce fat. As in you can't just do a stomach exercise and expect it to burn fat off there, that's not how it works. You can only reduce it by reducing fat everywhere, which you do by burning more calories than you consume.
10 Replyno the only think that reduces belly fat is being in a caloric deficit. 3 min of blanks doesn't burn much calories
it can make you gain some muscle though

+1 yPlanks are pointless, most people quit long before fatigue sets in because starting at the carpet is so boring. If you're in that position you might as well do some press ups at the same time.

@purplepoppy That's why you have to set a timer and stick out the appropriate time.
Nope but a rutine of 30 mins with a good diet will.
At the end you have to think about the caloric consume you do... I would recomend doing cardio and eating less instead of doing plank if you just want to reduce belly fat...10 ReplyExercise alone won’t help you lose belly fat if you don’t eat healthy or you don’t burn more than you eat! 80% nutrition, fitness is only 20%.
