I really hate going to doctors. But last week i got sick with a fever and a bad cold. It was really bad because my nose was so runny and it's the worst i ever felt. Anyway, the symptoms seem to have improved for a bit but im still coughing and i just had really bad throat pain all of a sudden yesterday. the cold is still there, im still couging a bit, i had chills last night. And i don't know why my throat started hurting suddenly. Today im chewing on ricola and the throat pain isn't as bad as yesterday but it's still there. I mean i should be improving but it seems the symptoms don't want to go away. My symptoms started last Tuesday so it's already been a week. Can it be time to see the doctor? I haven't been to the doctor in over 3 years and i don't even know any doctors since i changed my insurance. What should i do?
Yes, based on your symptoms and the fact that it's been over a week now with no real improvement, I do think it's a good idea to see a doctor. A few reasons:
1) A prolonged cold or flu, especially with a high fever, throat pain and persistent cough, could indicate a secondary bacterial infection that would require antibiotics. Over-the-counter medications may not be enough at this point.
2) Your symptoms are lingering much longer than is typical for a regular cold or flu, which usually improves within 5 to 7 days. The fact that you're still coughing, have throat pain and chills suggests there's something more going on.
3) Your throat pain came on suddenly after a few days of illness, which warrants a check-up to rule out any potential strep throat or other viral infection. Sudden throat pain is not normal with a typical cold.
4) Getting checked by a doctor now, while your symptoms have been ongoing for a week, will allow them to properly diagnose and treat you before your condition worsens. Early detection and treatment is important.
In terms of next steps, I would recommend:
- Calling your insurance company to find in-network primary care physicians and urgent care clinics in your area
- Looking up nearby doctors online, reading reviews and deciding who you feel most comfortable seeing
- Calling the office of your chosen doctor to book an appointment as soon as possible, explaining your symptoms and that the illness has lasted over a week now.
Don't worry about not having been to the doctor in a while - just be honest about your symptoms and medical history. The doctor's role is to listen, diagnose and help you get relief. I would aim to see someone within the next 1-2 days to properly assess your illness and rule out any serious infections.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you're able to see a doctor soon and start feeling better!

Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you're able to see a doctor soon and start feeling better! The power of “I am” is very powerful, similar to your beliefs I don’t necessarily believe in doctors or all medical experts for that matter. The power of the mind is very powerful saying “I am sick” is very negative as opposed to “I am strong , I am capable , I am immune” . Just the thought believing that your sick and not capable of a fast recovery will make your body do so. The subconscious mind is very powerful, but it doesn’t know right from wrong it only knows what you tell it. Constantly reminding it your weak and sick is telling yourself that your not capable. Change your mindset to accept the sickness for what it is and your capable of a fast and easy recovery. Though this may not be immediately, your body needs to release the fighting components to help better yourself but set a time frame.
However watch your words, saying “I’ll be sick till Friday” , you can almost guarantee you’ll be sick till Friday. Your mind has already expected it and therefore it’s likely it will come. Instead try a more positive approach, “I’ll be better tomorrow” tomorrow will come and even if you don’t feel completely lifted of sickness you will indeed feel better. Truly believe your better , feel it as if it’s already happened. Attract all that is positive, imagine events as if you were healthy and feel as if you are in that moment. You will get better , just believe in yourself and the powers your body, mind, and heart are capable of. ❣️If it's covid get the monoclonal antibody infusion. I was super messed up... went to the E. R... got that and walked out the hospital 2 hours later feeling fine.
Yes I would recommend seeing a doctor for sure. You can check online and see if there is an urgent care center in your area that takes your insurance.
No, just take care of yourself. Take supplements and get more sleep than normal. Stress can also wreck your immune system
Did you take any of those COVID shots?
