Melanoma - skin cancer - was almost unknown before sunscreen packed with byproducts of the crude oil industry - that owns most of big pharma - came along.
My dad used sunscreen, then a t-shirt, then a sweater on his body and trunks, shorts and track pants below the waist. He got melanomas on his back. Plural.
I just moisturise with tallow after sun exposure. I'm ten years older than he was when he first developed the cancer and 3 years younger than when he died of a brain tumour. I'll stick to how I'm doing things. I'm healthier now than I was when I lost my leg in 2020 and using less insulin. By January I expect to not need it at all. Diet and exercise - in the sun, growing food never exposed to chemical fertiliser or pesticide, and shifting away from starches and refined sugars to fats, proteins and honey as sweetening.
It's nothing to do with being threatened. I'm just not listening to what the people who's profit margins rely on keeping me sick and "needing" their products are telling me any more.
If I donāt wear sunscreen Iām in trouble. My skin is really sensitive.
One of the top reason why I know wearing sunscreen can damage your ego is that it makes your skin SUPER white. Some sunscreens donāt absorb well into the skin and it just looks like white paste. It really doesnāt look good at all. Iāve seen this increasingly common. Another reason is that sunscreen is way bad for the environment by destroying ocean life and the earthās atmosphere. I honestly didnāt know that and the more I think about it, it makes sense.
@question asker, itās true that many men could careless about the environment. I honestly felt the same way for a long time until I went on a vacation and went snorkeling 𤿠the locals actually barred the tourists from snorkeling until they proved that the sunscreen they are using is natural.
I honestly loved the coral reef so much that trip that I took that to heart and meaning to apply the same logic elsewhere. Itās only until the consequences affect the crowd is when change is made. Unfortunately I was ignorant until it affected me. Lesson learned.
Are you a blond (e) or redhead?
Because straight men are too cool for skincare routine. I have legit heart men saying shit like "sunscreen is makeup" or "soap and water is enough skincare for me". And then they complain why women won't date them.
Like just because you have a job and you have been a good person, you deserve a girlfriend? Good one 🤣
My mom thinks I'm paranoid for always wearing sunscreen when going out. That's the same women that married my dad bc she wasn't bright enough for college studies so... Yeah lol
@anon1903 My dad was so disgusted when I forced him to apply some body lotion few times as his skin looked really dry and he looked like he was trying to dust it away as if it's some dirt or trying to make a fly go away š¤£
He also don't care for shampoo and hair conditioner. He's been using soap for his hair all his life and sometimes uses coconut oil on his hands but wouldn't care for sunscreen, face moisturiser (I've put some on his face few times though his expression was funny), body lotion, etc
He keep saying "these things are for you, girls. I'm a man" yet his skin and hair looks surprisingly good even at his age š¤·š»āāļø
It does make sense. I met this guy at office who was in my team. I got sick one day and he volunteered to drop me home as he lives close to me but he first took me to this cafe instead and said "You ought to eat something as you haven't eaten anything all day" So, there I was watching football with him while eating I finally noticed how good he looks (had boyish look. Looked like Leonardo mixed with Aamir) and then before I knew it he was talking about style, clothes, skin care, hair care and stuff... I was surprised any guy would be that interested as I never saw my dad, bros or any guy friend to be into all these stuff. He was more into taking care of his apperance than I was. He called himself "meterosexual" and I had no idea what it was back then, lol. When I read about it, I kinda understood why men wouldn't want to call themselves that, lol
Many assumed he was gay but he was straight.
I guess some guys just don't want to deal with anything skincare related. That being said, as someone who lives in a tourist destination and see a lot of them on the beach, I can tell you that for some nationalities there are also a lot of women who like it look like a tomato (looking at you, Brits 👀)

going for a farmer's tan?
I'm brown, so I just tan, plus I tend to cover up if I'm going to be in the sun. I've only burned a few times in my life and it was always in water with all the reflections of UV.
My god-father and God-brother both died of melanoma, so I take skin cancer seriously, which is why I don't go out uncovered.
I apply sunscreen as soon as I know I'll be exposed for more than 5 minutes. Especially at the beach and any reflective surface like water. We only have one skin. The saying goes: skin has a memory (referring to how skin cells retain accumulated damage, and how this damage can manifest itself in the long term).
Some men refuse to wear sunscreen because they see it as unnecessary, associate it with vanity, or underestimate the risks of sun damage. Thereās also a cultural belief that darker skin or ātoughnessā offers protection, which isnāt trueāUV rays harm all skin types. Many dislike the greasy feel or scent of sunscreen and skip it out of convenience. Others simply donāt prioritize skincare or arenāt educated about skin cancer risks. In reality, sunscreen is essential for protecting against premature aging, sunburn, and serious conditions like melanoma. Skipping it is more about habit and perception than real safety.
People can do what they want. But for me, I need lotion, I need sunscreen and I mean, I turned brown brown and it doesn't matter. I want that on my skin as long as you doesn't have a petroleum. Basec But if it comes from a plant.
Like Olivera. Yes I want to use it
Base tan here, no sunburn to expect unless I really abuse.
I haven't heard of this refusal to use sunscreen for men. It's not really a topic I would be aware of anyway lol. Thinking about it, if that refusal is based on some ignorance, or nonchalance, about cosmetic and protective products, I wouldn't be surprised, because I'm one of these guys lol
Culture, culture... 😂
I donāt refuse to wear it , especially when I know I am going to be out in the sun for a long period of time , if I donāt wear it I am screwing myself , because I burn easily , which I already experienced bad sunburn when I was younger , so I make sure I put it on. I dated a girl once that refused to put sun block on when we went to the beach and I told her she is crazy to do so , she said she loves the sun , and doesnāt mind getting burnt. Well she eventually kicked herself in the ass for thinking that way because she ended up with skin cancer , now she looks like a burn victim and is screwed for life. Now she regrets not listening to me. I am still friendsā with her and sadly I have overheard people making comments about her behind her back , saying things like she has AIDS etc.. So she now gets spray tan to cover up her markings as much as possible. I enjoy being out on the sun but the sun can easily
Mess you up without realizing it will. So I no longer mess around
My exposed skin has gotten used to (local, tropical) sun. I know how or when to prevent sunburn. My last one was in 2012 I think.
I still have sunscreen at home - a friend left it to me when he visited 12 years ago.
I keep it as some kind of decoration
I will wear it if I haven't gotten a lot of sun lately- like on a winter vacation to a warm locale, but I generally already have a base tan going and I don't burn easily.
Right now, other than pretty much a speedo tanline, I've got a good enough base tan that unless I'm going to be in the sun all day I'm good to go.
male dumbassery knows no limits...
but hey, a lot of women do it too... lmfao
i guess most men are just not used to the feeling of lotion on their skin so they prefer getting burned xD not saying that's smart. just saying that's probably what it is.
Yeah I hate lotion XD but I personally hate shin cancer more so I put on sun screen
Skin cancer*
I used to wear sunscreen all the time but I live in Florida and we go to the nude beach all the time so after a while you don't need it anymore. And believe it or not a guy's cock and balls or at least mine don't sunburn that's weird everywhere else will but it's like a different kind of skin and it won't sunburn you think it would but it doesn't
I knew an old guy who went to Puerto Rico and didn't bring sunscreen. He was purple after two days 😂
LMFAO
I have black scots ancestry. Somebody in my line had sex with shipwrecked Spanish sailor after the Amarda, ~ 1588. So I have olive skin and don't burn easily.
I don't like creams on my skin but using lotions is part of what being a girl is. So possibly it is a gender based difference.
I have to wear it otherwise my skin falls off... my girlfriend calls me a vampire haha
I chose other though because it is toxic rubbish mostly and it is sticky and yuck and it makes you hot and sweaty and oily. If you don't wipe it off your hands before surfing it makes your board slippery as F and you stack it lots.
I don't go to the beach. Nor do I take my shirt off, and I don't spend enough time outside for it.
Your question does not specify beach or pool. The last time I was on the beach, I wore my t-shirt.
Personally I have no problem with sunscreen or any skincare product. I don't step out into the sun much so I just don't really see a use for it. On the rare occasion I do step outside during the day, I'm not in the habit of using one, it just skips my mind.
I live in a place where sunscreen is pointless much of the time and if I got somewhere that's sunny, I'll cover up with clothing if I feel there's too much sun.
Why is anything men do that isn't something women do about challenging their masculinity?
Men don't suffer stress as easily as women, why don't women learn how to process emotions internally as men do so they get less stressed or will that threaten her womanhood femininity?
I wear long sleeves and a hat to avoid the sun and sunscreen.
My rules are, I can apply sunscreen if it's over 25oC. And I stay out of the sun for extended periods at the hottest part of the day.
I mean, I live in England. Nor do I burn anyway.
Oh God no.
Pale as I am, I get badly burned very easy. When there's lot of sun I have to wear it on my face even if I'm dressed because I will get burnt there too.
I only use sunscreen that has bug repellent in it. Im highly allergic to bug bites. If I just wear regular sunscreen, it attracts the bugs
I either cover up or just stay out of the sun. Whenever possible.
Don't like seeing the alligator skin when people age!
YOU have identified the male Achilles heel. Rub white stuff on my face? IM DYING!!! ā ļøā ļøā ļø
Sunscreen/ Sun-tan/ Sun block are ALL harmful petrochemical products.
Human beings didn't need protection from the sun ever. Because if they did, people living in the desert countries would not have existed.
Nobody needed any of these sun protection products a 100 years back.
The ozone depletion although true, is a convenient marketing tactic used to market all sun products.
It is clothes that have always been the protection from the sun. Just clothes, no skin-care products. People have used oil on skin as some relief, but that is it.
Going to the beach in the heat is an idiotic lifestyle activity. It is like if you deliberately get too close to fire, you will burn. Beaches can be enjoyed in cooler weather too.
Most masculinity these days is performative🙄🤦āāļø😂
I canāt be out there more than an hour without it, Iām too fair for that👻
Without a woman in my life I don't actually care to care for myself.
Cause mosquitoes can't bite through leather.
Hahaha, silly mosquitoes
I wear sunscreen all the time otherwise I will get skin cancer and look like Mr krabs.
Probably because 78 sunscreen products were proven to contain benzene. Benzene readily absorbs through skin. It is a group 1 human carcinogen. Long term exposure to benzene throughout life significantly increases risks for leukemia.
This is because benzene rings are relatively stable and tend to accumulate in human tissue, specifically in bone marrow and the liver most notably.
"some"... Pretty much every commercial brand in big box stores were part of the list.
lol I refuse to do it most of my life, Iāve been only wearing it for the last few years 😅
Because I don't swim on the beach when their sun. I do it when on cloudy days or sunset.
If you look at the poll, many guys actually do wear sun screen. So you're hallucinating. If you're talking about "some men", it's thesame reason why "some women" do.
For me, even if it's sunny day, I still don't think it works and rather swim on sunset.
Not sure where youāre getting this assertion from. All the men I have ever known in my lifetime put on sunscreen
Looks like a majority of the guys do wear sunscreen. With so much more knowledge and awareness of skin cancer and how deadly it is, I think men and women both take better care of themselves in the sun.
I wear sunscreen at the beach anmd on the kayak. I should wear it even when i work in theb years. I do wear a bucket hat though.
Many men have the mentality of an empty paint can, and that is on a good day.
I use it frequently especially because I work outside during summer break and I also go for a daily run with no shirt on
Some men infact many of us see applying lotion on our body as a feminine thing to do wasting our time putting sunscreen looking all girly lol that's what most of us see it as 😂
Unfortunately, there is that tiny touch of caring for and protecting yourself like that in many places in the conspired feminine. And those men don't want to risk it because it will literally hurt their masculinity. I am not like that at all, sunscreen and good sunscreen, protects from sunlight To and invisible UV lights. To be frank, technically speaking, to completely avoid something like skin cancer, etc., you should always wear sunscreen; it's an everyday must. SPF if your freaking BFF.
A lot of men believe caring for their health is not manly becuase it's not cool.
If that's the case then men shouldn't have gone to the gym. That's basically caring for their health preventing illness.
I could say the same thing about a lot of women not working out because it's not feminine. That's your logic.
Either 1) Put on sunscreen or 2) Bring an umbrella to keep out the sunās harmful rays
Iām a man, I protect my skin and therefore my body.
Cancer sucks and you really donāt want to run the risks.
I tan and don't burn
I have the agricultural genetics same as my father
Few years back, he was so tan he looked like Aristotle Onassis
I wear, it's just a pain in the ass having to reapply it constantly
Well, I usually don't try to go get a tan the way women do. Just laying out because I want to damage my skin with sun exposure isn't even anything I do.
Ikr their faces get leathery from excessive tanning
Macho image but is really stupid when they get older with skin cancer
I wear sunscreen so I don't get skin cancer. I still tan enough too. Lol
I'm straight up allergic to sunlight. No amount of sunscreen will stop me basically being microwaved in my own skin.
I use whenever I need
I works indoor by the way
I dont wear it cause I dont need it i have the factory tint from god I dont burn 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don't you know, skin cancer is manly!
I don't know, I wear it and don't get why others don't
donāt wear it, but probably need to start lol
I only wear sunscreen if Iām going to be outside playing for more than a couple hours or when I go swimming.
itās thick itās greasy it smells I will wear it but not a big fan I mostly get in the shade than just swim
They just forget.
I usually wear because the sun can get pretty intense.
I'm coal-black. Unless I were sun-worshipping with a buxom blonde, I'd need merely the mildest sunscreen.
I don't need sun screen. I've nvr been burnt.
Sunscreen is actually really bad for you. But sunburn is worse 😂😂
I'm too lazy to put it on. Plus it's all greasy and disgusting.
My genetics make me bronze easy so I rarely burn
Ah⦠the ol pale face syndrome
Sun damages your skin in a million ways
So does oxygen
