Hot flashes at 22??

ive been getting hot flashes like crazy. it will be cold and rainy and ill be sweating with a fan on me..ill wake up drenched in sweat but shivering like crazy because I'm cold and wet. it happens randomly throughout the day pretty much everyday thing. really sucks..does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I'm 22 years old, I exercise but not often since I feel like I'm overheating my body. my skin get extremely hot you can have your hand 4 inches away and feeel my skin radiating the heat. I have a dr appointment next week but this is really bugging me!

Definitely could be a hormonal issue. I had this problem last year and it was terrible. Found out it was related to my hypothyroidism. I would get really hot and have to drink a ton of water. You may not have hypothyroidism, but it could definitely be a hormone related problem.

Have your doctor check everything out, explain any other odd symptoms you have been having. In the meantime, try to stay hydrated. When a hot flash comes on, maybe take a shower to help cool off. Drink a cool glass of ice water. Try to avoid caffeine and hard exercise as it will make you hotter.

I had that same issue with the exercise, my chest would really radiate heat so much I would sweat a ton. And I couldn't even walk to school without dripping sweat, it was bad.

yea its horrible! even at work ill be sweating and needing a fan and everyone is like uhhh you're too young for menopause as a joke..the odd thing is that around this time (usually around 9pm but anytime at night when I get home) I get really cold...but my body will be so hot my boyfriend can sit 5 inches away and feel my skin yet I feel like I have ice inside my blood and my feet will tingle a lot when I'm sitting and I don't want to get up because they will feel warm but when I get up I'm fine

It could be a problem with your thyroid, your doctor will most likely send you for a blood test to make sure there's nothing going on there. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Has it come on all of a sudden or have you been like this for a while now?

it started like 2 months ago but got really bothersome and way worse a month ago. and I did blood test for my thyroid as well it came back normal..i thought that might be the answer as well but I guess not.

Have you checked the side effects of your birth control? Might be one of them.

drink more water, the reason why you wake up at night drenched in sweat (believe me cause it used to happen to me too) is because you don't have enough water in your system. with more water in your body you remain cool, however if you are heated up, your body tries to get cool by sweating, but if you were perfectly hydrated to begin with and are not running a marathon in your sleep then you shouldn't be sweating.

Your hormone balance is off. It might not be serious, but yu should have it checked out right away. It COULD be serious...no way to know without tests.

get checked for premature ovarian failure. if you are on the depo shot that could be it as well. its not normal to have hot flashes unless you are going through menopause. bring it up to your doctor. good luck

I got hot flashes last night (I'm 17). I think its just normal to get them, espcially on youer period, but randomly sometimes too.

i don't get periods anymore because of my birth control! the hot flashes suck huh!

Oh well if its been happening for 2 months, run some more tests.
