i don't believe in any fad diets just healthy eating and controlling your portions. every type of food has its purpose and is equally important to any other food on the food wheel. veges probably being the most important, then whole grains, then meats. all eaten in modest portions will definitely help rev up your metabolism. too much protein is bad for your kidneys which iam pretty sure what the atkins diet is all about. you'll lose weight quickly sure but you'll also gain it back quicker. doing cardio in the mornings is great because your metabolism is revved up for the rest of the day, so when you get off the tread mill your body is still attacking those fat deposits and burning them up. I hear coffee believe it or not revvs up your metabolism, not too much though lol. lots of water helps to since your body rids itself of fats through respiration, urination and excrement.

Load up on nuts.
It may seem counter intuitive to be it is actually not. Nuts have fiber, complex carbs, mono-saturated fat, and high quality protein.
I buy the mixed bag of nuts from Safeway, I think its by Kirkland. They are cheap, cost around 5 bucks and one bag should last you 2 days depending how much you eat. A handful of those nuts can fill you up, equivalent to a 3 star dinner.
If you are serious about eating great and being healthy, then you have to have great self discipline. I don't eat any type of sweets, the only beverage I drink is water, and I eat tons of protein, mostly nuts.
Stay away from too many carbs. Complex carbs like pasta and oatmeal is good. Stay away from sugary fats and eat good fats and oils like nuts, avocados, and olives. Load of on protein. It takes meat to build meat. And stick with those veggies. As much as the taste sucks they do wonders for helping with building and repairing new muscle.
Good Luck!
Balance of fat, protein and carbs is ideal when getting in shape or losing weight..'The bulk of your food is going to be carbs and they should be complex carbs- carbs that will keep you fuller longer.
As long as you avoid pre-packaged foods and junk, you should be fine.

It really doesn't matter as long as you avoid all of that refined and processed crap and sugars. The fats you want should come from nuts (walnuts) and fish. More protein won't make you build more muscle but beef jerky is always a good food choice anyway. Drink water and exercise to increase your metabolism. The number one rule is take in less calories than you burn.
Try the Atkins diet. I've lost 20 lbs. in 2 months with it so far. Basically you limit your intake of NET CARBS. This makes your body enter ketosis. To put it simply, if your body can't get many carbs, it can't use that glucose for energy, and then starts to use your stored body fat for energy. There's a lot of terminology I'm missing, but that's the basic scientific principle behind the diet.
carbs are worse. pump up your protein intake and take you carbs down.
Eat a healthy amount of fats (polyunsaturated fats) and stick to complex carbohydrates.
