Carbs or fat when trying to lose fat and tone up?

For fat loss and muscle gain I'm dieting and I have taken a caloric defect but I'm also trying to eat healthier. With most foods and most meals it comes down to loading up on carbs or fats... which one is worse for you when trying to lose fat and gain muscle? My goal is to put my body in fat burning mode and work out to tone up
