Probably water retention to help repair your muscles... Don't worry about the scale... If you feel better health-wise, keep doing what you're doing. And watch your body change without the scale moving... It's magic! (Take measurements instead... Much more accurate and a better way to track progress)
Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. one pound is one pound.
When people talk about muscle weighing more than fat, they mean volume(unless they haven't done any research). Muscle is denser than fat, so one pound of muscle takes up less space than one pound of fat. Soooo it's better to say "muscle is more dense than fat" or "muscle weighs more by volume". So someone who weighs 140 pounds and has a lot of muscle could be considerably smaller than another person who weighs 140 and is mostly fat.

its good to separate muscle groups and not use the same one daily. balance out running one day with weight training the other day because if you run daily then you can exhaust your body especially initially until your body adjusts to all the constant cardio. also since you do more activity and working out, eat proportionally but not too much more than you normally would. keep hydrated and go easy on salty food through this process or ull just lock in and retain more water. and yea keep it up for a few weeks to start seeing changes. otherwise enjoy it :) keeping in shape is a great stress killer
You're not gaining muscle by running five miles a day. You're not likely to see any difference in weight in a week's time, either.
Your body naturally fluctuates in weight throughout the day. I can fluctuate up to 7-8 pounds, and I usually sit around 190LBs.
If you're going to weigh yourself, you need to weigh yourself at the SAME time every day. The best time is in the morning, before you've eaten breakfast and after you've used the restroom. This will give you the most accurate weight.
In short, don't worry about it. A week is hardly enough time to change your body composition.
Wait another week or two and then check again.

You're bulding some muscle, muscle weights more. But running a lot only burns callories while you run, you're better off doing more weight lifting and high intensity interval cardio. There's even some debate over running actually stops weight loss in some people because it changes the way your body burns fat compared to weight lifting. Weight lifting burns callories while and after you work out. Muscle burns callories, so getting more muslcle helps to. A good weightloss program contains both weight and cardio. As for diet, what is healthy? Lower grain based carbs, maybe you eat a lot of bread? Eat as many vegetables as you want.
She is correct. You tend to swell when you start running. Try drinking more water and stay away from carbs.
You'll crave them when you start running, but if you want to see results, stick with a high protein, low carb diet. Ideally, your carb intake should not exceed 50g per day.1. muscle does not weigh more than fat. A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. Muscle is less dense, meaning you can lose inches but not pounds. More than likely you have lost fat and gained muscle.
2. I would be interested in seeing what your diet is like though, same with portion size.Do some bodyweight excercises like push ups, air squats, lunges. They will do so much more for your body than just running alone will. And STOP looking at the scale. The shape of your body is way more important that the number on the scale.

Yes, muscles are heavy, but also your appetite has increased with the exercise. No matter how much your work out, you need to limit your food intake to lose weight!
And in a week, mostly it's your body adapting to the change of routine. It could well be water weight, as your mother suggested, and it's normal for your appetitie to increase a lot.
You will need to pay a little more attention to how much yoou eat, now!when you work out, don't weight yourself because muslc weights more then fat, so your running, your building muslces on your calves. don't sweat, your doing great
Because you are building muscle, and muscle weighs more than fatty tissue.
Yes your mother is correct. It will go away eventually.
Keep at it
