Can I lose weight without going to the gym? is it as effective?

the gyms where I live are super expensive and such scams. I had joined one in the past, got bankrupt. I don't understand the idea of paying $350 a year for using the elliptical machine. now I'm looking to lose weight in ways without going to one. I live by a park so I was thinking walking/jogging 40 minutes a day, doing 50 crunches, 15 pushups, buying dumbbells, and jump rope. for nutrition for breakfast I want to do hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, and tea, then have an apple for snack, salad for lunch, grapes/carrot sticks for snack, and fish/chicken for dinner. drinking 2 Liter bottles of water a day.

do you think this plan is effective to lose 40 lbs?

what are good protein source foods to eat throughout the day? especially if you're at work?
