Main rule of thumb is not to work the same muscle out two days in a row. A lot of people like me do "splits." Different muscles each day. The muscle needs to repair from the previous workout. Every other day should be good.
Not sure how into working out you are but if you're just doing machines you can do leg curls, leg extensions, and calf raises and see results pretty fast assuming you find your sweet spots on set counts and rep ranges. Since you're going for looks, try higher reps at a slow pace each rep at a fairly intense weight.
