im on that right now also! I'm 5'8 as well!
ive been hitting the gym at least 4 days a week. the weather is nice now so there should be no excuses plus when I get there and put my ipod on and you feel the burn man its the best feeling ever. its like a drug now, your endorphins get released and I feel happy and accomplished after I work out.
i do the elliptical machine, bike and weights machines and rotate them every other gym day. I also walk a lot since I can't run very well.
eating is a challenge because I have a sweet tooth I'm always craving sugary stuff. so I learn to eat healthy sweet stuff like fruits, make smoothies or frozen yogurt with low sugar. sometimes even kashi cereal does the job. or you can get gluten free oatmeal cookies from trader joes or those kashie cookies from target. there are healthier options available. I only have a little dark chocolate.
for breakfast I eat hardboiled eggs or eggwhite omlet, oatmeal with cinnamon, or a banana.
then I have a tiny snack, either fruit or nuts, peanut butter, something small...
for lunch ill have a grilled chicken salad, a sandwich something healthy and low carb.
for snack again do fruits veggies, smoothie, nuts, naked granola bar, or a sweet healthy snack.
dinner, I try to eat early before bed, ill do salmon, fish, chicken, salad on side, barely any carbs sometimes ill have a little rice.
dessert: fruit only fruit.
drink a lot of water throughout the day. I have 2 liter bottles.
but yeah. don't worry about numbers or calories, I tried counting calories it didn't help. now I just put stuff in my mouth that I know is healthy in content, rather then just a number. cause something can have low calories but have high saturated fat content. it can be tricky. best thing is to think about the matter you're putting inside your body. and eat small portions of it.
working out is your best bet!

Eat more proteins and less carbs (I only eat carbs at lunch time in moderation, for evening meals, I tend to avoid them) if you're having salad, pay attention to the calories in the salad dressings, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to flush out water weight and exercise, if you love to dance then take up some classes. Your body will burn approx 12 calories a day for every pound you weigh while you are at rest so if you calculate it against your body weight (12 x 234) then your body burns approx 2808 calories a day (it will burn more when you are active). Try cutting down to 1600 (or even 1500) calories a day and you will lose. Good luck!
You don't need support, or encouragement from others to better yourself and YOUR OWN situation. It is not their responsibility to burden themselves for your pursuit of happiness. You do not have to eat every twinky offered, so it is not your ex boyfriends fault you gained some of the weight back.
Life is tough. And getting skinny is hard. If you want to lose weight it takes effort. Focus. Consistency. Dedication. Work. All things you and only you control. Eat less, work more. It is simple as that, and yet much more complex because it's not that easy. You'll face lethargy, exhaustion, cravings, boredom (eating cause you're bored), and your own destructively persuasive mind.
Do not blame others for your eating, because you're not going to credit anyone other than yourself when your story goes from failure to success. With that said, your remedy is cardio one full hour a day, six days a week (doing as much in that one hour as humanly possible). And the only thing stopping you, is skipping a day.
I lost 45 pounds last year by walking every day, eating right and sticking to 1500 calories/day.
I started by walking a half mile a day and then moved up to a mile. I increased the distance evry other week until I reached 4 miles/day. Since you love dance, you might try dancing a minimumof 4 days/week.
For meals you must stick to fruits, veggies and lean protein (chicken, fish, nuts). I would say 1400 calories/day.
breakfast=cereal with fruits with 1% milk, coffee; juice
lunch = veggies/salad and some protein ( I usually cooked a few pieces of boneless/skinless chicken on the weekend and took oe to work 3 days/week)
dinner=stir fried veggies and perhaps a little protein if you had none at lunch
between meals=2 fruits and one veggie/ day or vice versa; once in a while some nuts like almonds.
No cheating and keep up the exercise and the pounds will melt away.

I've been working on losing weight too :) before getting a gym membership, I would run every morning around my neighborhood or borrow my friend's workout videos. Eventually it got pretty boring since I didn't really have anyone working out with me. I signed up at the gym and I use the treadmil most of the time. I do walk/jog/run intervals. My first intervals were walking for 5 minutes, jogging for 4 minutes, walk again for 3 minutes, then run/sprint for 3 minutes. I would repeat this for about 35-40 minutes. Another thing you could do is zumba since you love to dance! You can either sign up at the gym or get zumba or other dance workout videos and do it at home :)
Stop doing all gimicky diets. You need a lifestyle change, not some bit of medicine that isn't sustainable for the rest of your life.
Cut out sugary sodas, junk food and start limiting your portion sizes. Keep the dancing up, zumba classes are everywhere.
Best of luck! Can the herbal nonsense, you need serous programs for diet and working out. Diet first!
You should get help from a scientfic organization like Weight Watchers that will lay out a plan for you based on hard facts, and also [provide with personal support, feedback, good tasting but
'safe' desserts, and no marketing idiocy and false claims.well since you love do dance use that to help you loose weight! another good thing to do is make sure that you eat healthy food. and its actually healthy if you eat 6 smaller meals a day but make sure they are healthy and not like huge meals. Other things that are good is to have an accountability partner or someone that will work out with you that helps a lot I think
You're not going to get the support of those around you. Its not going to happen.
How much control do you have over what food you are served?for your height you should be around 140-150 pds also depending on your frame
Try to examine carefully your eating habits. Develop a healthy dietary program, and work out a lot.
Dance more. Eat less. Way less.
