If by tone mean building a little muscle all over, I'd recommend some some kind of general full body resistance routine. You can probably have a weight routine that works every major muscle group in one day of working, but I'd probably split up the exercises in two days or even more days if you want to be serious. I'd really recommend the compound exercises over isolation because it's a big time saver. If your not sure what I'm saying bench press, squats, lunges, deadlifts, rows, and pull ups work multiple muscles at a time. Of course cardio helps burn fat which gives a tone look, especially if you already have muscle.
You could try something like this:
Day one--chest, triceps, abs day-- bench press, incline press (or both in same day). You can vary it up and do machine sometimes and dumbbells and Olympic bar others. That's going to work your chest, triceps and the front part of your shoulders. Next do some kind of isolating triceps workout which can be varied. Then do one or two ab workouts with 3 sets. This is a great day to do Squats or lunges so you get a quadriceps workout.
Day two--back, biceps, lower back (don't just work abs if you want a healthy body and posture) day-- Do a seated row and some kind of pull down exercise which works the upper and mid back along with the back part of your shoulders and your biceps. Do a isolating bicep curl exercise. I really recommend doing a back extension unless you do deadlifts this day which would be great since you would be further working on the back as well as hamstrings.
Another thing you could do is have a day where you do all leg workouts since I know girls tend to want to focus on this, it really all depends. You can combine all of your upper body workouts into one day and have a full leg day if you want to go easy on the upper body. I do recommend changing the exercise to different types that works the same muscle like dumbell curls one day, then curls with a barbell or on a machine since it works your body differently.

If you're just looking to tone up, you want to do training with low weights and high reps per set. Some exercises, such as crunches, won't require any weight added to be effective at toning. Your chosen exercises will ideally be greater than 12 reps per set before you get to muscle failure.
Many ladies simply do cardio exercises and add little weights, 4 to 8 pounds, to their arms, to give them a toned look. Since you're not wanting to lose weight, you want to keep your cardio to a minimum for cardiovascular health (30 min twice per week would work), and instead go for low weight high rep isolation exercises for the parts of the body you're looking to tone.
Some exercises probably won't need any weight added (crunches) since you are just looking to tone, as with just gravity and body resistance you'll end up getting greater than 12 reps per set, but not greater than 25/30. You can tone by doing greater than 25/30 reps per set, but you'll save time by putting on a few poinds of weight to keep your maximum push at a lower number of reps.
If you're trying for a toned belly, you can't do that without cardio though, unless you've already got very little body fat there. The toned tummy look is usually the result of stomach isolation exercises, such as crunches, and having a low % of body fat, and that low of a % body fat is unhealthy for some.
Good luck, miss :)
I'd say try a mixture of everything until you find something fun. Any exercise won't last if you don't enjoy it. Yoga is great if you like it. Swimming is excellent if it's fun. Some girls love the gym, others hate it. Many girls can get a really beautiful body by trying a martial art like karate or Thai boxing. These forms are great exercise, but don't feel like it because they are fun. Plus with the added benefit of being able to protect yourself, and strengthen your mind. Good luck!
dedication is the only way to see results, pick something, anything, and stick with it, running, biking, Pilates...

Hit the machines at the gym and get all your muscle groups. If you can get into freeweights that is great but otherwise just get a burn in that muscle group per machine and eventually get your whole body done. Then rest and let the muscle heal and repeat. Use high reps like 8-12 that give a good burn!
For general fitness and basic shaping, I prefer swimming. Light workout with weights does the final bit of sculpting - I'm not really looking for the 6-pack look.
"tone" comes from having presence of muscle + low body fat. Do the same things someone would to build muscle, then do the same things someone would to burn fat.
If you won't be AT LEAST 5'6" then you will never be a woman, and you'll always remain a little girl! Really!
Try yoga my sister loves it, she doesn't look like someone who has had kids either.
practice yoga and use the sauna every time you finish a workout. then take a cold shower after you exit the sauna
jazzercise is pretty fun.
