Who is to blame for Detroit going bankrupt?

Liberal and Democratic policies are to blame for the collapse and bankruptcy of Detroit. Obama said the automobile industry was back on top and he refused to let Detroit go bankrupt, and it did? Obama stated this on numerous occasions! He ruined the bond holders to save the unions too. Yet another Obama campaign promise that goes unfulfilled. Has he been President for the past 5 years? His policies have been in effect since he was elected and they're not working. He is pushing us toward total dependence and continues to cave into special interests instead of standing up and putting forth policies that will work! Who do you feel is to blame and why?

Time for a history lesson? Why not... it's only 4:46am and I'm only half drunk...

It all started in 1945 when the US dollar was made the international exchange currency on the stipulation it back the dollar with gold at a rate of $35 an oz. In the years leading up to 1970 it became clear to the world through the expenditures of the Vietnam war that the US was printing far more paper then they had gold.

In response countries started asking for their gold back which set off a rapid decline in the value of the dollar. The situation climaxed in 1971 when France made an attempt to withdraw their gold and was outright refused... for the rest of the world this was outright theft on the part of the US government.

In 1973 Nixon began locking down the worlds leading oil producers to sell their oil strictly in US dollars and reinvest any excess profits in US treasury bonds, notes, and bills. In return they received military support for their oil fields. By 1975 every member of OPEC had taken the bait.

The act of removing the US dollar off of gold and tying it to foreign oil instantly forced every oil importing country in the world to start maintaining a constant supply of federal reserve paper. In order to get that paper they would have to send real physical goods to America.

Welcome to the birth of the PetroDollar... paper went out, everything America needed came in, and the US got very very rich as the result...

With the PetroDollar under it's belt the US was able to raise the stakes in the cold war higher and higher until eventually US military expenditures exceeded that of every other country on the planet, COMBINED!

Then in November of 2000 things took a turn for the worse (depending whose view to take) and Iraq began selling it's oil in Euros which was a direct threat to US financial dominance. When one domino falls, the rest follow suit.

This was the start of the US's preemptive war strategy to maintain control of the sale of oil and ensure the lasting financial dominance of the united states.

In response the US government with the assistance of mainstream media began to buildup a massive propaganda campaign claiming Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and they intended to use them.

In 2003 the US invaded and once they got control oil sales were immediately switched back to US dollars.

Things continue to escalate from there and now Russia and China are stepping onto the playing field and control is slowly slipping out of the hands of America and the system is falling apart piece by piece.

And if you think this will end peacefully with fall of the American financial system... think again. The powers that be are committed to a path that will bring about WWIII. Arguably... it's already started.

But PLEASE, don't take my word for it. Go and do the research for yourself and when you come to the same conclusions I have... stand up! STAND UP before it's to late.

I do not mean to underestimate the economic problem of the country, but I gotta say from my perspective since I'm in the scientific field, yes I vote democrats because of how behind the republicans are. Example: stem cell research, the whole world is running stem cell research, and the republicans want to put that on hold why?hmm…Religion..may be. You can vote because of social issues all you want, but when the economy and country implode from wreck-less spending and failed entitlement programs, you won't have to worry about social issues anymore because there will be none. The economy is first and foremost of what needs to be fixed in this country, not about if a woman has the right to choose or not. Sure it's her body, sure it's important, but not more important than the economy. Period. You need to re-read what I said about terror.

Yeah, they're not very good with money. The deficit was lower with Bush, despite people saying he created the problem. I personally had more money in my pocket when Bush was president too. I know people hate to admit that, I didn't really care for a lot of what Bush did either but I was much more financially stable when he was doing things. As soon as Obama came in, Bump! Up went the taxes. Now I can barely live check to check.

lol no.. First off we should have spending caps on campaigns. Corporations can pour billions into super pacs to get people elected because for some reason corporations are treated as people in our democracy.

I agree that there needs to be corporate regulations, but America is a capitalist country and many of these corporations are international so it ultimately wouldn't really work effectively. The government made a huge mistake in buying out corporations like General Motors. I know that Obama wanted to fight for Detroit to stay afloat, but it was doomed from the start and Obama would have been smarter to stop pumping bullsh*t into people and just listening to economists and pulled the plug on it.

I agree I don't think anybody should be bailed out.. It goes against capitalism.. Why would the people on top get billions of dollars of aid? They have the funds to help themselves if they truly wanted it.

Obama isn't a capitalist, that's why they were bailed out. Obama is a Socialist and quasi-Communist even. He wants our guns, he wants our money, and he wants America to collapse so we can be rebuilt into this big Socialist Republic. I won't go as far as saying he'd be like Stalin, but he sure has a want for ultimate control and power. I mean he was in Communist clubs in college and emulated Frank Marshall Davis and all. That's all on paper and proven, so no slander here.

The poor people are conditioned to the system, and that is a problem. It's easy for everyone to not work, collect money and food from the government and reproduce in order to get a bigger check. That is the quickest way to destroy a country financially. It's like if you have all of your children and grand children living in your house while you pay all the bills, it's never going to work. Bail outs would have never happened in Detroit had it not been for Obama. It's not money, it's people.

I never said it wasn't a problem I just think it's an equal problem that we hemorrhage money at transnational corporations to stay afloat and they invest hundreds of billions of dollars more in economic development in other countries instead of our own. Trickle down economics doesn't work in today's global economy unfortunately.

I mean we still give cotton farmers billions of dollars every year from when the last depression happened... It's pathetic. Our government gives the billions of dollars so they can lower their prices like with oil subsidies. I don't see why these huge ass corporations need to be paid to lower prices but hey.

I'm not saying that government dependency isn't a problem I'm just saying that people seem not to care about the dependency of the wealthy on our government. It seems you only see people rage if it's poor people getting money. I wish it was more equal that's all. Anyway I'm bored with this because I have homework to do. The United States gives away too much money to nations which hate us and burn our flags. We give money to nations which harbor terrorism and use our dollar to train these people to attack us. We have a broken Welfare system, a broken immigration system, and a society which has an entitled attitude. Everyone is owed something in America today and no one wants to work for it. Corporations aren't 100% of the problem despite needing to be reigned in and regulated. Our spending is unsustainable.

Yeah I feel like if common people were in congress even without loads of political experience we would be better off than we are now. People are all bought off before they even get there and have to appeal to their gang instead of to American citizens. It's sick.

Also if one party has a great idea it has to be rejected because if it's successful that party will get more support and votes. It's a system that creates stagnation. Average Americans wouldn't get like that I don't think. The people of the world have a lot more in common than our leaders do which is something I firmly believe.

We need term limits so people like Ted Kennedy don't happen again and become career politicians. I also think there should be a quota on what gets passed and is reflective on their salary. If they don't produce, they don't get paid. I mean the people elect these individuals to represent them, not the special interests or their own (or even party) agendas! Politics is sick and now it's just a big d***-measuring contest and the big wheel is just spinning and spinning

Yeah I can't stand career politicians! It should be an honorable public service not a career. Honestly I'm a little more on the liberal side than conservative but I bet you and I could see eye to eye or at least find a common ground on most issues. We know that people's lives are at stake by what is decided in congress and we can't just sit idly by and d*** around. Not only that but American decisions effect the entire world.

I try and be fair all-around. I identify myself as more of a Republican/Libertarian but I do have some liberal viewpoints. Unfortunately, most young people see the conservative as a rich, racist, "nutjob" and doesn't even give them a chance to present their viewpoint. I mean America was founded upon a liberal and conservative ideal set, there is a Democrat and Republican political party for a reason? Sure you aren't going to always get along, but at least hear them out!

Yeah unfortunately the big inexperienced spending machine in Washington will spiral us out of control before we know it. First he said Detroit wouldn't go bankrupt and that the auto industry would be saved, and it went bankrupt. America will be soon to follow sadly.
