How active are you currently?
How much time can you actually devote to exercise?
Do you buy your own food?
Do you cook your own food?
What restrictions do you have in terms of what you can eat when?
Do you have access to a gym?
Do you have any health issues today?
Incidentally, I'm not even sure what 'I have to be 56' means. I box. I've had to make weight. I had to be weight X. But some of that is a water weight cut. I presume you're worried about how you look. You don't have to weigh anything, you just strongly want to look much better. I would guess you don't actually want to be -lighter- (which is what a scale tells you directly) as much as you want to be -thinner-. Given muscle changes and water weight, in the long run focus on your size and shape, not the scale. The scale is useful for providing information on what -might- be happening.

Well, the cliche is watch what you eat and start to do exercises, going to the gym and stuff. A friend of mine is going on this diet from the Weight watchers, or you can look online (or for an app) to see what you can eat a day (she can have 1200 calories, weighs her food, ...so it seems pretty intense) and look for exercises for bodyparts you wanna "tackle".
Exercise and diet, my fitness pal is pretty cool, it helps you to keep track of calorie intake and calories burnt in exercise.
I know people who want to lose weight fast, they do the master cleanse, you can lose a lot of weight but it doesn't seem very healthy.

*Don't drink sugar drinks.Such as mountain dew or coke
*Eat 5-6 small meals a day. This will raise your metabolism.
*Write down every thing you eat.
*Incorporate exercise into your day.
I'm 5'4 and I used to weigh 147. I cut out soda and sugar. I lost 39 pounds following these rules. This may not work for everyone but it did help me get back into shape. Good Luck!Calorie restriction and excercise.
