your stomach growling doesn't always mean that you're hungry. It means that there's gas in it - which happens when we're hungry and have an empty stomach, but also sometimes happen just like that. Don't listen to it growling, listen to your body telling you whether or not your stomach is full.
I've lost about 20 lbs by eating regularly, healthy, and sometimes exercising., The eating healthy part really helped more than the exercising. Know which foods to eat, know which ones to avoid or to eat only once a month. Also, I drink lots of tea throughout the day, because it keeps me warm in winter, so better than water. It also keeps me full because of the constant water intake, and curb my appetite because I never got really hungry. Also important: eat 4-5 meals a day, eat every 2 or 3 hours. A meal can consiste of just an apple, it could also consist of a whole pizza. Eat 3 big meals, and 2 small (snack) meals in between. Here's what I did:
Breakfast: 7/8 a.m.
coffee with skim milk, egg, whole wheat bread or oatmeal (protein and fiber in your breakfast will curb your appetite throughout the day and keep you full longer)
Morning snack: 10/11 a.m.
a cup of fruit yogurt or some fruit or a bit of nuts (you'll get the sugar you need either from the yogurt (not as healthy but it didn't stop my weight loss) or fruits (healthier sugars), and the nuts will keep you go on until lunch without feeling hungry
Lunch: 12/13 p.m.
big bowl of salad with some kind of meat and not-too-fatty dressing, preferably with seeds and nuts too. Or a warm meal, a medium plate of spaghetti or whatever, I don't really limit my lunch choices. I stop when I feel like I can still take another bite, but don't really need to. Then, because I always need dessert, a bit of fruits.
afternoon snack: 4/5 p.m.
same things as morning snack.
dinner: 7/8 p.m.
some meat or fish with lots of vegetable, either as salad or cooked. a couple of grapes or fruit slices as dessert.
After dinner, it's tea time for me... It helps curb the nagging feeling of wanting to nosh on some chips.
I maintained it for about 6 months, and the weight went down... Slowly, I probably only lost about 4-6 lbs per month, but they stay gone. I also wasn't very disciplined, and allow myself some unhealthy or more calorie-ridden foods on days when I exercise. And when I go out and eat with my friends, I also snacked on a bit of chips and stuff. Just a bit. Just so that I can keep up with the mostly healthy eating for longer than I wouldn't have been able to, if I restrict myself too much.
Know yourself, know what kind of restrictions you need, what motivates you, etc. I think that's the key to finding a weight loss plan that will work for you. Good luck, let me know if you need anything.
Oh, also 7+hours of sleep helps.

Psychotropic drugs can absolutely make you gain big time weight by increasing your appetite. Which one are you on? If you're "constantly starving," you shake when you delay a meal, you eat a whole plate of food and are still hungry (stomach pains, not just growling) and you have to eat a lot of filling foods like meat to turn off that hunger, that's not normal. That is a side effect of the drug. I don't know if that's the kind of hunger you're experiencing but I'd tell your doctor about it so he can think of switching you to something that won't cause obesity.
Forget diets, starving yourself is the worst thing you can do. It doesn't work because you only lose weight because you're depriving yourself of food, which you can't do forever obviously. Once you start eating properly again you gain all that weight back, plus more sometimes as in your case. You need to make sustainable changes.
Start eating a more healthy, balanced diet - have a cheat meal, one day per week where you can treat yourself. Drink more water - a lot of people don't drink enough, and they mistake thirst for hunger. You need between 1.6l to 2l a day. Do more exercise. Play sports. Go to the gym. Run. Swim. Walk or cycle rather than drive. Get plenty of sleep - especially when you're depressed.
are you getting all your nutrients in? if you don't, then your brain will signal for hunger before you get them in
