How do I deal with his sports tantrums?

Ok so my boyfriend LOVES The Cardinals baseball team. I could care less, I think baseball is boring but I watch it for him. My problem is that he gets so upset. Last night he yelled and hit the walls when they lost. I can only imagine what he's doing right now. I will be with him tomorrow and I'm already getting nervous about his tantrum. What am I supposed to do if anything?

I guess I'll try talking to him about it. He probably knows I was weirded out since I stayed up when he went to bed. Anyway I'm not gonna break up with someone over this. I live in NE where the Huskers are more important than God, if you don't hear your neighbors screaming when a game is on they're probably dead lol. I've just never been big into football or baseball. When I lived with my family I would hide in my room. I just thought I should join him in something he loves. Thanks.

They lost and everything was fine. He was pissy but no physical agitation or yelling. He knew he freaked me out the first night. We talked about it and cuddled :)

I can understand getting upset and even fussing at the TV (Since my boyfriend and I do it both. Him with soccer and me with mlg tournaments as nerdy as that is haha), but hitting walls is a bit much.

Just calmly bring it up in conversation. Let him know how you feel. That should help a bit. Other than that, there's not much else you can do.

Hitting the walls is very extreme. Some swearing or mild yelling at the TV is what most people do, and only in moderation. It sounds like he has an anger problem. I'd consider a different boyfriend or at least talking to him seriously at getting some help for his issues.

So is he screaming and yelling or punching and breaking stuff. Be honest -- there is a big difference here.

Be honest with yourself, I mean. Not with us. That doesn't really matter. I noticed you say you don't spend much time with him ... often, the things we notice about people end up showing up more prominently when you're with them more. So punching the wall when his team loses (which isn't a sign of an intense fan, it's a sign of being unable to tolerate frustration) can become pushing you the first time you argue, which can become ... etc.

Also, I've had problems with anger myself after growing up in a volatile home... If you don't get a hold of it, it makes you into a bad person. I don't judge him, but it's his responsibility to get it under control and work out his issues.

I appreciate your concern but relax. I'm surprised none of you have seen intense fans. My brother punched holes through walls and I watched a friend break his fence when the huskers lost. This behavior is normal to me I just usually leave and avoid it. Like I keep saying I don't like sports, I shouldn't live in NE. My boyfriend yells at the TV and hits walls with an open hand. My ex husband went through a very tramatic incident and was never the same. He was angry and beligerent.

He hit me twice the last month we were together. We were very happy for 8 years but he changed (understandably) after what he went thru. Basically I'm saying I know what abuse looks like and my boyfriend is not it. If he ever were I would leave like I did the past time. I'm not desperate for a man I was single for 3 years. I enjoy my boyfriend and want to share in his interests like he's done for me. I may have to pick a different one since sports aren't my thing.

I was more looking for suggestions like; distract him with sex, go home, start yelling at the TV with him to make him laugh, etc. Suggestions for what I should instead of staring at him like he's a psycho.

I'd suggest to let him watch the game alone if you don't want to be around it. Distracting someone during the big game can irritate them and you don't want to have an argument you can avoid.

Red Sox will win tomorrow night, so make sure he has no weapons close to him for your safety and his.

Try sending him off to a pub to watch his games. That'll leave the house standing.

The point is that I wanted to watch it with him. I'm just not a get pissed about sports person, I really don't care.

Series is going back to Boston and I don't think that St. Louis has a good shot of winning it all there. If I were you maybe just avoid him?

But I don't want to avoid him. I like being together and we don't get to see each other much because of long distance. That's why I want to know how to deal with him.
