Is it truly possible the antibiotic is causing the pain?

I went to the dentist last week and I knew I had an infected tooth because I could taste and smell it. So they gave me an antibiotic and so I started taking it and the day I started taking it I was in terrible pain and it doesn't make sense. The infected tooth is on the top of my mouth and my bottom jaw started hurting terribly, I was in so much pain and it was my lower jaw, my teeth themselves like the whole right side of my teeth, gums everything, down my neck, in my ear and I could feel it in the back of my head. I was in tears still after taking a norco and 2 Motrin 800. We got ahold of the dentist the next morning and she says it was hurting so bad because of the antibiotic. I work in a hospital and have taken many antibiotics and have never in my life experienced or have heard of anything like this, especially since my infected tooth is on the top. They told me my wisdom teeth are coming in sideways and one is starting to fracture another tooth but they said its nothing to worry about now but I kinda wonder if it started to move and broke that tooth and that caused the pain or what is happening but I'm kinda doubting that the antibiotic caused so much pain.

It does seem a bit odd if you had no pain, started an antibiotic and pain began.

I know that the first few days of an antibiotic can cause a bit of pain while it begins killing the infection but usually it's not more pain than usual and typically not mroe than you were already feeling.

i would just stick with the ibuprofen or similar NSAID which should help.

in addition to the antibiotic. I'm actually dealing with a similar thing and my dentist told me not to hold off taking I-bu as often as I need...and within the guidelines of any NSAID instructions

I mean I had pain before but the oragel helped but this was awful, I almost went to the er but working in a hospital I know there's not much they could have done for me since they don't specialize in teeth. They want me to take the antibiotic 4 times a day but there's no way I can handle that kind of pain

I'm takin Motrin about every 3-4 hours and the bottle says 6-8 hours but I can't hold off that long cause it hurts so bad and the Motrin doesn't even really help but I can't take a lot of norco because it messes me up so bad and I can't drive or nothing so I just continue to eat Motrin like candy

is it clindomycin? or one of the mycin antibiotics? maybe continue using the orajel in addition to the pain killer. if it doesn't get better after another day I would def tell the dentist that it's not working and maybe she needs to prescribe a stronger anti-inflammatory or pain killer.

It is clindomycin, I'm allergic to penecillin which is what she wanted me on. At times Ill take 2 Motrin and I have the norco but I don't have anyone to drive me around all the time. I've been up since 330 in pain today and since I'm at work I can't take anything stronger than the Motrin but it isn't doing anything for the pain

i'm on clindomycin too. I think either a) you need to take a different painkiller (like not motrin, which isn't a fave of mine) OR you are having a reaction to the antibiotic

Like I said I'm on the same thing right now and while I didn't notice a bit of pain it definitely wasn't so bad that ibuprofen couldn't squash it easily, so it seems like either your tooth issue is rather severe or your having a very distinct reaction to this medication

I'm about to call them and see what the problem is, my friend talked to them last time because we thought they'd call back right away so he gave them his number cause I couldn't even talk
