She is most definitely bipolar. Therapy can help but she really should be on a medication, to help with the mood swings. I was diagnosed with BPD and depression about 30 years ago. Been on meds for about 20 yrs, and seeing a psychiatrist for 3 yrs
I've had various medications over the years. I've currently got a good combination. In 2013 I was off work (drs. orders) for 6 months as my medication needed to be changed. And I had all kinds of brutal reactions to the ones they tried. 5 different meds in the 6 months.
I know when my medication needs changing or a dosage increase. I have a very, very short fuse. I end up yelling and cursing, sometimes at people if the stupidest little thing happens. If I'm in that agitated mood and drop a pencil. Run. Run far and run fast. Because I will explode.
My high (manic) periods usually last 10-14 days at a time. I can go through this only eating once every 2 or 3 days. And 5 - 6 days without sleeping. Literally. When I do "crash" it's for about 5 hours, then it's back to no sleep for days.
I know exactly what you're talking about. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
