Don't worry I spelled it right. However it's written, Halloween is chalk full of superstitions going back way way before deodorant was common place. Randomly last night I looked into a whole host of superstitions related to All Hallows Eve and decided to share them. But to save time I won't give their backstories because that would make this far too drawn out. Just some funny and weird shibboleths (Look it up) we as Humans have attributed to All Saints' Eve through the years. Enjoy!
1. Scottish girls believed they could see images of their future husband if they hung wet sheets in front of the fire on Halloween.
2. Some girls believed they would see their boyfriend’s faces if they looked into mirrors while walking downstairs at midnight on Halloween.
3. Girls who place the apple they bobbed for under their pillows are said to dream of their future love.
4. Medieval legends depicted bats as witches’ familiars. So bats during Halloween was thought to be a significant threatening sign. One of the most common myth was if a bat flies around a person’s home thrice, it implied that somebody in the house would die soon.
5. If a bat flies into the home during Halloween, it means that it is haunted because ghosts gave the bat access.
6. It's said that a black cat is a symbol of bad luck, as the medieval myth goes that Satan transformed into a cat whenever socializing with witches. The black cat’s bad reputation can be traced to the Dark Ages when witch hunts were ordinary.
7. If a Spider plunges into a lit candle and is devoured by the fire, it indicates that witches are close-by. Furthermore, on the off chance that you detect a creepy spider during Halloween, it implies that the soul of a departed loved one watches over you.
8. It is said that children born on Halloween have the gift of both seeing and talking to spirits. In addition, it is also said that they have a planetary power because you are ruled by both Mars and Pluto.
9. The act of holding one’s breath while passing through a cemetery prevents evil spirits from entering your body. Additionally, at the point when passing by a burial ground or a home where somebody has died, you should turn your pockets inside, then out to ensure you don’t take home the ghost in your pocket.
10. If you go to a crossroads at Halloween and listen to the wind, you will learn all the most important things that will befall you during the next twelve months.
11. You should walk around your home three times backwards and counterclockwise before sunset on Halloween to ward off evil spirits.
12. On Halloween Night, it is believed that those people who are destined to die within a year will hear a sigh that is carried by the wind which blows over the feet of the dead.
13. It is believed that if a person lights a new orange colored candle at midnight on Halloween and lets it burn until sunrise, he or she will be the recipient of good luck.
14. On the eve of Halloween, put your clothes on inside out and walk backward. This is said to help the person meet a witch.
That's it for the list. (Didn't want it to end on 13.) Now if you'll excuse me I need to buy an orange candle and find a quiet crossroad close to me. Maybe circle the apartment building a few times just in case. ( I'm curious as to if number 14 actually works, @SweetHomicidalQueen do you run into a lot of backward people?)
