What does photogenic mean?
The term "photogenic" describes the ability to appear alluring, alluring, and compelling in images. When someone is said to be photogenic, it signifies that they are endowed with characteristics and expressions that naturally translate well in photographs. Some people have characteristics that make them appear attractive in photographs, such as a bright grin, expressive eyes, or a particular charisma.
It's important to understand that being photogenic doesn't necessarily include being physically appealing; rather, it refers to how an individual's distinctive qualities appear in photographs. Therefore, if someone compliments you on being photogenic, it is in reference to your camera-friendly demeanor and how you seem in pictures.
The reasons why I'm not photogenic
There are many reasons why someone can believe they are not photogenic, and being photogenic is not only based on appearances. First, lighting and camera angles can have a big impact; an unpleasant aspect might distort features. Second, unnatural expressions might be affected by being uneasy or self-conscious in front of the camera. Furthermore, candid photographs frequently capture real moments better than posed ones. Remember that everyone has different photogenic traits, so it's important to put your energy into feeling confident and at ease rather than obsessing over having the perfect appearance.
Can you be good looking but not photogenic?
Absolutely! It's not always the same thing to be attractive and photogenic. While some individuals naturally transfer beautifully in images, others may not translate as well while being physically handsome.
The ability to appear photogenic frequently has to do with how one's features and expressions look under different lighting conditions. Even the most attractive people may feel that they don't appear as attractive in some photographs owing to different reasons, such as odd positions or feeling uneasy. On the other hand, a person who lacks conventional attractiveness might yet be quite photogenic, radiating charm and charisma in front of the camera. So keep in mind that photogenicity is arbitrary and does not reflect your genuine attractiveness or beauty.
What are the Ways to Be Photogenic?
Instead of drastically altering your appearance, mastering certain tricks to bring out your best features and project confidence in front of the camera will make you more photogenic. First, experiment with various expressions while looking in the mirror to determine which ones best emphasize your best qualities. Being tense during picture shoots might take away from your inherent attractiveness, so try to relax and be at ease. A considerable difference may be made by having good posture, which lengthens your body and exudes confidence.
It's important to understand lighting; in general, natural light is more aesthetically pleasing than direct, harsh flashes. For a gentle, pleasing glow, position yourself to face the light source or have it off to the side. Avoid facing the camera directly and turn your body to show off your finest side. Try out several positions and perspectives to see which ones suit you the best.
Last but not least, keep in mind that photogenicity is arbitrary and that being honest and accepting of your individuality will make you appear naturally alluring in images. So unwind, enjoy yourself, and let the camera capture your inner confidence!
How to Give Photogenic Poses
Posing in a way that makes you look good in photos can instantly improve your looks. Start by lengthening your body and keeping a straight spine because this gives you a more attractive and self-assured appearance. As facing the camera directly can make you appear flat, slant your body slightly to the side. Put one foot in front of the other and shift your weight to your back foot for a more dynamic position. This gives the shot dimension and a natural curvature. Avoid putting your arms flat against your body and relax your shoulders. As an alternative, leave space between your limbs and torso to come out as more friendly and open. For a truly photogenic position, try out several angles and, most essential, project confidence and sincere feelings.

Just ask this guy.
Sure.
This is a promotional shot from "Pan Am", a short-lived Sept 2011 - Feb 2012 ABC TV series about the Golden Age of Jet Travel in the 1960s. This is Margot Robbie when she was about 20 or 21 here (she was 21 y 2 m old when the show debuted). Notice the lack of significant make-up beyond foundation in this shot; no heavy eye makeup or bright lipstick in this picture.
In 1990, around the time Margot was not quite 2 months old, I had a 22-year-old beautiful girlfriend who looked amazingly like Margot in this picture. However, my girlfriend was just not that photogenic; most pictures of her then didn't do her justice. That was during the era of photographic film. Now, with digital cameras, the few photos that I have seen of her are better and she still looks fabulous at least into her 40s (she is 55 now).

This girl I have a crush on looks amazing irl but in pics she post she oddly appears not as appealing. Lol at least she doesn’t know. Some of my friends gfs but not all have the a weird selfie/ pose style but look way better irl. It’s super possible to look amazing in pics, have solid photogenics and look better irl too but sadly you’re not one of them. I’m ugly and I’m proud. He he
I’m always camera ready for videos but pictures are hit or miss for me because when I try it looks so unreal. I literally gotta take 7 pics if I want a regular smile pic and notice when I’m not necessarily noticing or ready pics of me turn out great.Yes , it can go both ways , someone can look good in a picture but in person not so good and vice versa , or someone can look good in both , The bottom line most of us are our own worst enemies when it comes to seeing pictures of ourselves or looking at ourselves in the mirror , With the way technology is today most people that are considered attractive like celebrities and models etc. our enhanced to look a certain way on film and camera so you should never really focus on what someone looks like in pictures cuz if you meet them in person they more than likely won’t be as attractive or they might be more attractive in person When someone tells you , you look better in person they are pretty much being honest with you
Story of my life.

The camera makes the forehead appear bigger, makes the nose stand out even more and it does something with the face shape like fatter/longer or stg. I look totally different when I look in the mirror.A lot of the issue with being "photogenic" is having a good photographer, especially one who is familiar with portraits and posing the body. I've seen many average looking people who look really sharp when they are photographed the correct way to their best advantage, and also "good-looking" people shot poorly with the result being a terrible final result.
Quick examples-- If a lady has a wide face, bring hair down the side (s) to hide the face edges, and shoot on an angle. If there is a large space between eye and eyebrow, shoot from above, to close that angle. If eyebrow is very near the eye, shoot from below to open up the eye.
Absolutely! Some facial shapes and features just look better on camera then others. I've seen people who look gorgeous in photos who are rather plain in real life, and people who look awful in photos who are stunning in real life.
Yes. Have you ever tried to show someone a picture of your crush and none of them do the person justice. Lol.
Yes, I've seen some really good looking guys and girls who looks very attractive in real life but aren't photogenic.
Yeah. I once had a date on tinder with a guy who looked like a potato in pictures but I decided to give him a chance and to meet him cause he had a good personality. Best choice of my life lmao. He was actually very good looking, and even my friends were surprised when they saw him in real life. He was a 3 in pics and a 8 in real life
Yeah
The selfie camera on my samsung galaxy prime phone takes better pictures than the one on my ipod.
And im not talking about the image quality. I mean it gives a more accurate representation of what you look like.
Ipod costs 300
Samsung phone costs 100Yes and the opposite is also true. There are some people that are very attractive in pictures then when you see them they look like they got hit in the face with an ugly stick.
My friend says my eyes look very dead in photos. And the opposite IRL. I can fix this by squinting because it's because I glare. But yea, I look decent IRL but can look ugly asf on photos
Being photogenic is a trait. Not appearance related, though photogenic people who are also attractive get the look amazing in photos for obvious reasons
Yeah, it’s definitely possible. The type of device used to take the photo and the lighting and angle all play a big part in how the person looks.
I hope so, I look like a rotten potato in pictures.
Of course you can. Some of the most photogenic people aren't the best looking in real life and some of the most beautiful people are not much to look at in photos.
"No. If you're attractive then you'll look good in pictures too"
The only confusion arises from people thinking they look like they look in the mirror.
But the reality is that they are just ugly.According to women I'm attractive, but hell, I'm definitely not photogenic, and I'm also well aware of that. And I can live with it. :)
A lot of it has to do with lighting. You can look terrible in photos but look good in the mirror and to other people. But in the second regard, everyone has their own preferences.
