2.9K opinions shared on Other topic. My wife and I have been in the same home for almost 20 years. We originally bought 30 acres of bare land. It's beautiful oak grassland. There's a river, as well as lakes and creeks nearby. The property is about 700" wide and goes over 1900" from the private road to the crest of the hill. Our 1600sq. ft. house is a good size for us. It has an open, airy floor plan with big windows in front, skylights, and wide French doors that lead to the back. It has front and back decks. We have a great well that pumps into a 2500 gal tank on the hill above our house. All of our water then gravity feeds down to the house and yard. We have a really good septic system and a grid-tied solar electric system. We also have a 30'x30', two story steel garage with windows on the top floor. It's insulated but has no second story structure yet.
The house is about 3/5 up the west facing hillside. The view and the sunsets are amazing. We planted 20 fruit trees, 6 of them citrus, and surrounded the area with deer fencing. We have some raised beds as well as nice gardens. We installed drip irrigation.
I wouldn't want to change a thing, but if money wasn't an issue, I do a lot of improvements. I'd finish the inside of the garage, do some improvements on the house and yard to make them idyllic, build more raised beds and deer proof gardens, and a large, secure chicken coop. I'd hire a crew of workers to maintain the yard, garden and orchard, and maintain the drip irrigation system so that we could produce more food. I'd also upgrade our solar electric system so that our annual bill from PG&E was close to zero. I might get a generator for the house that runs on propane from our propane tank for cases when the grid goes down. I might also get a separate generator to power our well pump, which is a long ways from our house, again, in case the grid goes down. That would require building a secure shed to house that generator.
I might even hire a part time chef and housekeeper.
What I'm saying is, I'd like to be as self sufficient as possible, and prepared for any eventuality.
Aside from that, I might get a big pickup truck and a 5th wheel house trailer for vacations within North America. A couple of ATVs and a couple of Vesta-style scooters for my wife and me.
My wife and I would also travel (fly) to places around the world on vacation without worrying about cost, even though we have no desire to live the lifestyle of the rich and famous when traveling. We would enjoy staying in bed and breakfasts or renting small apartments, seeing sights and experiencing culture, eating good food, and occasionally pampering ourselves in finer establishments.30 Reply

I would LOVE to give up everything and live far away in some remote place in a small house with at least electricity, running water and Internet i guess lol. Id love to be surrounded by trees, birds, animals and shit. Maybe even have my own garden to grow stuff? I dont know. I would still like to be somewhat close to a city for stuff like doctors or whatever but other than that thats about it.
I live in the city and dont really like it. Something's always under construction, overcrowded, lots of dumbasses, noisy etc. You know how cities are.10 Reply
Well, I'm a minor.. still living with my parents. They both make six figures, so we're not struggling or anything. I don't necessarily like this life style though, not that I have an issue with it either. They drive normal people cars and we have a large house, which is honestly bigger than it needs to be for four people and a dog. They send me and my brother to an expensive private school with a mix of formal-informal education.
When I'm older, I won't be in any rush to get married or anything. Even if I have plenty of money to spend, I don't really care about nice cars or clothes or whatever. I'd like to live in a small, cozy home that houses just my dog and me. I'm not really sure what I'd spend most of my money on. Probably on hobbies and other interests outside of shoes and bags or whatever most women spend their money on.30 Reply

+1 yI would own six homes for me and my future husband, one house we share when we want to be together, two independent homes we live in when we want to be apart, a shared boat we live in when we want to live together and two boats we separate in when we want time apart, I would have between 3-4 kids and hire one servant to help us manage the kid who would also work as our chef and I would spend my time creating digital media to promote social and moral causes such as film documentaries on global warming or paintings and poems about anorexia or bullying and I would host group music classes for young children and run a discount day care for working class families so their children can grow up in a positive environment and I would fund the day care by getting their families to volunteer as gardeners and than sell what they plant.

u +1 yI think I would like to be retired, with a home in a rural area outside of my hometown, with enough room for a garden and to build a workshop. I really don't care about frequent vacations and I am happy driving a used car.
30 Reply Being honest I really enjoy my current lifestyle. I think it's very simplistic and very humbling but I also believe I could personally use some more lessons in being less self centered since I have become very independence over time which can be dangerous. There's more things I want to try and learn of course to fit with my lifestyle so for me personally I want to keep living a lifestyle where money is only important for things I need and some things I want I don't really need to make six figures in a year to be successful for my needs sure it helps in being financially comfortable but you can still work and make a reasonable yearly salary and still be financially comfortable over a longer period of time if you don't mind waiting.

+1 yIt would be an off-grid 'cottage' and somewhere (very?) remote. Modern set-up, but not overloaded with ''gadgets''. Doing some farming and keeping some small livestock.
Working mostly from home - online. For grocery shopping I'll use the bush plane.
What I have currently: A place a little off the beaten tracks. A regular 2-Bedroom semi detached house for rent. Not overloaded with ''gadgets''., but comfortable enough.
Doing some herb and veggie gardening and entertaining two (or three?) guest-cats..
Working mostly from home - online. For grocery shopping I use the moped.20 Reply
+1 yI'd just keep things simple and still try to be reasonable with money.
Like I'm a person of routine, so there's still things I'd want to keep and I'd make to be able to afford to maintain it, without much effort, so sometimes, I'd just sit back and relax, travel a bit, here and there.10 ReplyIf I was a multi-millionaire, I'd spend 2 to 3 hours everyday at the kickboxing gym and lifting weights, would be learning a new language daily (Korean), would volunteer at pet shelters, and would have a part time job teaching 15 to 20 hours a week, as opposed to full time like I'm doing now.

+1 yThe same I have now. My family is rich and I'm heir of my father's business, plus my wife is of wealthy family, so money aren't an issue.
I'd still work my 18 hours a day - between learning to conduct business, examining and doing paperwork, follow my political campaing - and sleep the other 4-6. Wake up, repeat.10 Reply
+1 yI'd probably not change much, there are rich people in my extended family, millionaires in fact... and no one would ever know it. They don't spend like crazy, they dress the same as when they were poor.
I'd likely have a slightly bigger house, same cars... maybe a few more toys, boats, atvs, etc... but generally stay pretty much the same.10 Reply

+1 yThe same one I have now with a couple of exceptions: I'd hire a housekeeper to thoroughly clean the place every couple of weeks, a maintenance person to fix whatever I choose not to fix, and a Massage Therapist to exchange bodywork. Other than that, I'm fairly content.

+1 yI'd want to live comfortably
-A nice house on a moderate piece of ground, a couple of annex's/cottages for my parents to live in
-A Bentley in the garage and something more muted day to day
-A selection of nice watches and jewellery, a stealh wealth range and some flashy stuff for the safe places
-a Steinway baby grand or a full grand and learn to play piano
-Brioni suits and other luxuries
-a vaultful of gold and silver10 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yNothing flashy or something like that. I wouldn't need a big house, just something that would fit in size for what I own.
Would be great to be able to travel once a year or so.
Try out different hobbies, be able to spend time with friends and family, and not worry about affording food or membership to a gym and so.
Luxury would be to have a butler prepare food for me and clean the house and so.10 ReplyI probably would be chillin' in a beach resort somewhere rn.
Life full of travel and adventures, trying new things I've never tried before and eat food I've never ate before.
I think I would constantly travel until I'm bored of traveling.11 Reply
