That is not what most of us would choose if given realistic choices. "Guys, would you rather date a girl who is anorexic, obese, or within the normal weight range?" Ask that question and only a VERY small minority of guys will choose the anorexic girl.

I would try to help her.. I was anorexic after my mother died for a long time, and my wife helped get me to counsel and antidepressants, I was okay in about 6 months

This hypothetical is asking someone to pick between two things that they do not want and then judging them for picking the option they don’t actually want. Most people will go for someone in a healthy range. While I do think people should be kind to someone who is either anorexic or obese, it doesn’t mean they’re bad people for not being attracted to it

Lack of personal accountability and eating for 3 full grown men accounts for a lot of them.

This is the problem and misconception with being fat. You think that a person whose fat eats for 3 full grown men when in reality many restrict binge restrict binge. Just like some anorexics and bulimics. They just don't restrict long enough to get to a typical anorexic size.

Yeah I dated a restrictor for 8 years. Eating enough for three grown men on that binge, or eating complete trash food, it doesn't matter or change anything. I know all the reasons/excuses/justifications. I made all of them when I was obese. I don't care. You know who else doesn't care? Your heart, which is being overtaxed by the extra person you're carrying around. That's the nice thing about science. It doesn't care about your feelings, because it's based on observable, reproducible fact instead.

Anemia
Heart problems, such as mitral valve prolapsed, abnormal heart rhythms or heart failure
Bone loss which increases the risk of fractures later in life
Gastrointestinal problems, such as constipation, bloating or nausea
Electrolyte abnormalities, such as low blood potassium, sodium and chloride
Kidney problems

Still the same boat. Facts and science don't care about your feelings. You're running your heart in the ground either way which is why the original question is a false dichotomy because in reality most men would choose "neither of the above".

Nobody's going to be my life partner without the ability to engage in the physical activities I like. You need strength and endurance for that, so I'd never be in a position where I'm choosing between an anorexic or obese woman, I'm choosing the fit woman who can actually hang with me.

Didn't say that we can't get dates. I have a boyfriend but that still isn't enough for me. I feel absolutely ugly and like a 600 pound person in the body I'm in. I eat very restrictively because of it. Because society would rather see you as thin as possible than as a whale.

It really depends on how extreme it is, but most likely an obese woman if anorexia means Eugenia Cooney level of skinny in this situation. I can find an obese woman attractive as long as they're not morbidly obese.

Also, I think anorexia is a bigger obstacle mentally to overcome than obesity. I would rather my partner not have to deal with that.

Same as all our heart disease. Nobody reads labels. Then they'll eat a family size box of oreos on the couch and be like "i'll walk an extra half mile tomorrow." One, no you won't. Two, at a snails pace you burned about as many calories as carrying your fat ass to the grocery store to get 'em. Three that's about 3 weeks worth of fat. You're not going to "walk that off at the office tomorrow.

There no personal accountability. I watched a guy at work get fastfood (2-3 whoppers and a chicken sandwich) 3 or 4 times a week... then he's like "Man these desk jobs make your pants shrink. No genius, the 5000 calories a day you eat when your only physical activity is walking to the elevator is why your "pants shrink."

I KNEW why I was super fat. I ate too much and I ate too poorly. Didn't have to figure out quantum dynamics to fix it. Was it easy? No. Breaking bad habits isn't EASY, but it was SIMPLE... as in not complex.

I have a thyroid problem... yeah... you eat deep fried thyroids dipped in garlic butter.

@BoopBoopBeep haha, I’ve done the “extra mile thing”, when I eat fast food, I walk around the lake in front of my apartment about 4-5 km.

I think what you are saying is not eating because of hunger, it’s eating because of boredom, which will definitely lead to extra weight.

Here in China people take eating like a ritual, they eat very healthy meals, they don’t even eat snacks and sweets not to cause weight gain.

It’s good you broke your bad habits. Congrats. I was once 54 kg while stay at home period and it’s not fat or obese for me, but having few extra kilograms was really uncomfortable.

I've been plus or minus 3kg for the past 20 years. It goes up more than that (unless it's muscle) then I take early corrective measures.

I like that I do half marathons wearing 15-18kg on my back. I like that I do charity races every weekend. I like oreos too, but I'll do a couple every few months and have that itch satisfied.
