Why guys don't like fat girls?

I'm actually curious why people (especially male towards female) don't like fat people...

Is it purely aesthetic reason?

Some guy would say that's a sign for not having self control but really, I'm skinny and I never exercise and eat whatever I want. It's more of matter of genetic factor and your metabolism I think?

I think that 'they don't take care of themselves' or 'they are lazy' is just pre-judgement and generalization which doesn't really convince me.

Some girls I've seen would control their diet and exercise a lot and very active but they will remain pretty much same...it is not their fault?

I really don't understand why guys don't like fat girls.

I have no idea how old this question is, but here's my answer, though technically it doesn't answer your question.

I like bigger girls. I'm not fat myself, 6' 3", 215 lbs. It's not a matter of what I think I can get because I've dated slim girls most of my dating years because I'm insecure with my own preferences, but truth be told I'm definitely into bigger girls, love handles, bigger butts and thighs, a little rounder belly, all of it. And to maybe confuse your question a little more, it's purely for aesthetic reasons. I can't control it, and unlike what some weak-minded or petty men might sometimes say, it's not because there's anything wrong with my head. The same way I can look at a slim girl and say, "She's really attractive," I can look at a thicker girl with some love handles and a bit of cellulite and say, "Damn, that's attractive." Especially if they're confident with themselves. Thick girl body confidence is so much stronger than slim girl body confidence, no offense to slim girls, it's just my opinion. It's easier to be confident in your body when you know the majority approve and no one is going to treat you like shit just because you don't loom like their sexual preference.

After reading some other comments, I feel the need to add further details about myself to contrast their opinions and give the deepen the spectrum of men. I'm caucasian, live in the US, and extremely active. Run 15-20 miles a week and go to the gym at least 3x a week. So, I don't claim to speak for all men, or even one other, but guys saying "Men just don't like it" or "Most men are too active" or certain regions of the world are different: they're trying to speak for everyone and they don't.

I think the 'take care of themselves' or 'health' or 'i like to be active' are excuses trying not to look shallow.

Its mainly (often entirely) about looks.

Regardless of what the best answer says, a lot of it has to do with lifestyle matching. My lifestyle is relatively active. Right now sucks because I can't exactly run in the neighborhood I live in, but before I moved I worked out and ran every single day. I eat healthy a majority of the time and work to keep my weight in a healthy range. SOmeone who doesn't do that isn't going to work well with me, nor do I find it attractive.

Now, if they are that size and do take care of themselves- because there are some that have more weight on them and are healthy as well as not lazy then kudos to them.

The second reason, sure, is aesthetics. However, we are biologically programmed to be attracted to body types that we deem as healthy. Males are attracted, biologically speaking, to females that are healthy enough to bare children. Women are biologically attracted to men that are fertile and can produce children.

On a subconscious, biological level, it's unhealthy.

Being fit = health

health = good genes

good genes = good mate

good mate = good offspring

good offspring = genes carrying on

genes carrying on = betterment of human race

They just chalk it up to the girl being "unattractive" and leave it at that. It's easier than explaining the biological reasoning. And actually, less offensive. What girl would rather hear, "Oh you just have bad genes for children" over "You're just not attractive."?

Being fat is not a sign of health which then ruins all the other ones. There's really no reason why the majority of the population (excluding medical reasons) shouldn't be fit. Laziness *is* actually the reason why many people are overweight.

That's quite true. I like nerdy guys but I always go out with footballer type of guys where I know people would approve. What I need to realize is nobody gives a damn about who I date. But it's so hard!

Guys worry less then girls do about what other people think of their partner. Not saying they don't at all, but they worry less. If a guy genuinely finds a girl hot, he'll go for her most of the time.

If a guy is only going after a girl when nobody is around, there's a good chance he finds her hot enough to screw but not enough to be monogamous too.

Actually, studies show that looks matter *more* to guys when they're considering a girl for a serious relationship/marriage than when they're just hooking up.

Fat girls aren't physically attractive to most men first of all, and that IS a big deal. We aren't talking about 15 pounds overweight, we're talking about 50+.

Many guys have an active lifestyle, and like to be outdoors, play sports, hike, fish, etc., and if your girl gets tired just walking to the car and never wants to go anywhere, or resents when you DO go somewhere either with her (where she has to confront her physical limitations) or without her (when she resents being left behind), it turns the relationship from positive to negative very quickly.

I'm a fat guy, and I have some of the same problems. Even though I'm fairly active, I do have limitations of what I can do because of my weight, I have difficulty finding clothes that look really nice, and I'm not not as physically attractive. That's the fact, and there's little point in trying to pretend it isn't true. But, unfair as it is, more of a woman's value in society is in her appearance than it is for men (men have other, different things that they have to work hard on to be valued), so it's even more of a problem when women are substantially overweight.

Honestly? We men don't find fat women physically attractive. At least not so much here in Western culture, now. Might be different in Africa or Asia, I couldn't say. It's the same reason we like big boobs, long hair, and nice legs. It's how we men are in this country.

Though you only have room to dislike fat people if you're in good shape yourself. Otherwise it's hypocrisy.

Also, studies show that being fat really hurts your health. It makes your risk of cancer, stroke, and heart attack--the top three causes of natural death in the USA--skyrocket. Kinda like if you're addicted to drugs.

Lastly, you mention genetics, which people love to cite today as why we're so fat. Let me ask you: why are we Americans so fat on average *now*, compared to 50 years ago? Have our genetics turned to crap in that short amount of time? Or did they just eat less and exercise more back in the day?

Also, why does obesity vary so much from state to state then in the USA? Colorado was 18.5% obese in 2008, Virginia was 35% in 2008. Is there that much genetic differences that twice as many people are obese in one state vs another?

Also, the majority of Americans trace their ancestors back to Europe, both western and eastern. Why then does almost every nation in Europe have obesity rates lower than Colorado's 18%?

I guess the fatties just can't take the facts. Fact is, America has a weight problem that Europe doesn't share, despite so many Americans being descendants of them. Fact is, guys who are in good shape won't want to ask out fat girls, generally. Fact is, if the fact girls lose weight and get in shape, they'll probably live healthier and happier and stop being jealous of people who aren't fat.

sure, this is a bit on the extreme side since she has only 10% fat. 30% is considered obese. with 18-20% she'd be cool.

personally, I prefer athletic body, so the 2nd chick (last pic) is like ultimate for my taste. just delicious. link ... I think I need to do something about this boner.

I'd prefer less muscle, but losing a lot of the fat really helped that girl. Girls should have smooth middles, not ripped abs, haha.

Because it's unhealthy. If I'm going to be with a girl I don't want to constantly have to worry if she's going to have health problems. I suppose it might also be because guys like delicate girls that they feel like they protect, and when they aren't light they feel less like a protector. I suppose it also might be that it SEEMS like she takes less care of herself. Even if she exercises and eats carefully I suppose we just assume she doesn't care. I honestly don't mind some weight, but obesity I will not go out of my way to meet someone because it's scary and I don't want to have to worry about them constantly.

I don't like fat. I don't like it on girls, I don't like it on myself and I don't like it on other men (and I'm straight). I find it unattractive and unpleasant. Most people that are fat want to be skinny and it shows. People can call it superficial all they want, let them go date a fatty. It looks unhealthy, unhygenic and uninspired.
