He also said love you to me on his birthday and has called me sweetheart. Some of my friends said that he told them he loves me to death. I'm curious is he likes me more than just a friend.
What does it mean when a guy (friend) says he misses you?
Of course he likes you but he is scared to lose you if he tells you how he really feels.

Kind of sounds like he's gay. Guys don't call girls sweetheart and we don't say that we "love them to death".
