Why does my boyfriend call me every night?

so me and my boyfriend would always text each other "good morning babe" every morning (we take turns in saying it first) before we head off to work
and then every night, he always call me just to talk
we talk about our day, what he's upto, what im upto, what he found, what he saw, and other random shit lol
why does he call me every night?
im not complaining about it but im just curious
oh and he tells me he wants space/freedom in the relationship (even i do too.. every one does) but then he still calls me every night lol :/ im confused
space/freedom as in doing his own things (e. g. his hobbies like gym training, relaxing at home, etc)
