Why does my boyfriend call me "beautiful" when I look like a mess?
When you are in love with someone and in a relationship with them, you eventually stop "seeing" them as they physically are, and instead you substitute your mental image of them - including your memories of them at their best, and your feelings about their heart and soul. You romanticize them - even when they aren't wearing makeup and have acne.
It's not that his eyes don't work - they do see the acne. But his brain and his feelings for you kind of mentally "Photoshops" you and smoothes over any flaws.
So, he isn't lying - he's just telling you what he sees in his mind - adjusted by his emotional image of you. Really, it means that you are very fortunate - millions of women would kill to be in such a relationship.
You are probably beautiful to him and he loves the way you look made up and as a mess. There is something really natural and enticing about a woman in her relaxed, cozy at home, no make up, shorts and T-shirt state. That can be beautiful and sexy too.
Most guys don't women beautiful ONLY when they have on makeup. We can find you beautiful looking 100% natural with no extra, outside stuff done.
Yes, my boyfriend does this too. But remember that he obviously sees you differently than you do. So while you focus on your acne or your messy hair, he might be focusing on your pretty eyes, your radiant smile and your body overall. I don't think he would be saying those things if he didn't mean them. Like, haven't your friends ever complained to you about their looks, something you think is very minor? Like while they're complaining you're just thinking to yourself "how can this gorgeous woman even find something to complain about?". That's probably the sort of outlook your boyfriend has. He wouldn't be with you if he didn't find you attractive, whether you're all dolled up or barefaced.
He really means it. When a guy loves you, you are beautiful to him, and I bet you're not as much of a mess as you think are anyway.

This brings up a common thing in pchycology, in which an individual feels discontempt with their own body, despite what everyone says and how they look. This most likly stems from low self esteem or the fact that they are the ones who spend the most time with their body, or even the extreme image that society placed on the "ideal body type" This not unlike the eating disorders Anorexia/Bulimia Nervosa.
But also, on the contrary, it is impossibly to say for sure wether or not you are "beautiful" without seeing what you look like. It is further complicated by the fact that beauty is subjective, someone who looks like they got plowed over by a steamroller then dragged through mud for one person could also look like the most beautiful person ever to another person. Then there is the who debate of whether he is talking about internal or extrenal beauty.
In summary, it is hard to give a definitive answer on whether he truly thinks your beautiful. My best advice is to take the compliment as true abd genuine. This will not only make ypu feel better about the way yoy look, but also give a boost to your self esteem.
Of course we do this. I don't look at my girlfriend's face and go, "My girlfriend is not beautiful anymore because she isn't wearing makeup". My girlfriend is always beautiful and she doesn't wear makeup. Even if she did, she's beautiful either way. We get ache and other facial problems too, doesn't mean we're overall not beautiful because of it lol.
I think you have a slight reliance on your makeup, the whole "If I don't wear makeup, no one will think I'm beautiful." I hate it tbh, because beauty is subjective and even if you wear makeup, there will be some guys who hate makeup who will think you're ugly. If your boyfriend thinks you're beautiful, you're beautiful. Regardless if your face is covered in goo or you have zits all over your face x3
You fall for a girl. You get enamored with her looks. You end up enjoying staring at her morning face. The things the girlfriend is self-conscious about become objects of attraction as you fall in love with her. I even put up a picture of an artistic photo that puts something that my girlfriend is self-conscious of in a very flattering light, in hopes she'd say to herself, "Oh, now I get why he likes it. That IS pretty." I think this happens a lot, that we men are turned on by lots of things about a woman that leaves her baffled.
Aww that's the cute 😍 many guys actually don't care about acne/breakouts and even some acne scars. Acne is a very common thing and your boyfriend may have gotten it before too. I break out all the time yet my boyfriend calls me beautiful. Heck, recently I was sick and had some marks on my face, my doctor legit asked if I burned my skin with anything. And one person still told me that I look beautiful. 😭❤
If a guy finds you beautiful, he will find you beautiful all the time and acne or other stuff don't bother anyone.
He's being sincere and you should believe it. Sometimes a girl never looks more beautiful than when she's just woken up, has bed head, no make up and has sleep gunk in her eyes. If that's your girl beside you in bed you think she's the most beautiful thing in the world.
Because guys generally don't care about little things like acne despite what girls think. My boyfriend couldn't care less if a girl has some blemishes and he says that most guys don't. So don't question the fact that he calls you beautiful, he's obviously saying it because it's true. He sees the beauty that you have at all times. The makeup and accessories and fashion that you wear, is not what makes you beautiful. It just sometimes can enhance the beauty you already possess. He loves you a lot and obviously likes to compliment you, that much is true. But, he seems to see something about you, that you can't see in yourself. A good way to put it is, with a question: Do the stars disappear when the blind look at the sky? Or do they simple fail to see what was there the whole time?

A man who sees you as you are in you're own skin and calls you beautiful is a mature one who sees that beauty is skin deep.
For you to question yourself in your own skin when the makeup is stripped away sounds as if you're insecure of your natural appearance. I hope you come to learn that beauty goes far beyond the exterior and that once love comes into a relationship, if one is able to let their guard down with their significant other and show them their real self in times when they aren't "dolled up" but (for example) - in their PJs, with hair all tattered and with acne but is still seen as beyond beautiful - that's love.
I'm sure there are some guys that call their girlfriends beautiful that don't have their hearts and souls into what they said because they're getting favors from her and things are going good. But just know that some guys also call their girlfriends beautiful regardless how they look because they're looking beyond their skin. What they see is a priceless girl to them that they love and treasure dearly. Also, remember that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Those kind of guys always want their girlfriends to feel beautiful because that's a very important trait to girls. The woman I'm currently with used to have a history of self-harm and depression and I think those scars are the most beautiful thing in the world. She's not only beautiful in spite of her past (or her "flaws"): she's beautiful because of it (them). It's that kind of outlook that defines male sexuality. If we're falling in love with someone all those stupid little things you beat yourself up over become attractive. The way you snort when you laugh or that pesky mole on your upper lip that you think makes you look like a discount Marilyn Monroe- you name it. It won't matter when he falls for you. Because, even at our woman's worst, they usually still have either that inner beauty that makes you so special to us, or we can see the beauty though all the average that makes you so special to us. Everyone looks rough whenever, but because we care for you so much, the mess is overlooked (which really isn't much of a mess, just not as dolled up as usual). Also, we tend to judge ourselves and notice whatever "flaws" we view in ourselves more stringent and harsher than what others see of us, especially the ones who care most for us. Everyone has things to work on, and we understand that about the human side of us. The ones that care for each other understand it better and accept it and relate to it. But we remember the beauty as well, and that's the difference. We first see the beauty and then, yeah the other stuff is there, but is relative and insignificant really.
First off, he says that cause he loves you! You are the person he fell in love, and loves the way you are.. This is how it is in relationships.. Find someone that loves the way you look. All the things you hate in yourself that your partner will love! And also to make your more secure and confident you are his baby-girl what do you expect?

If a guy is saying that, believe me he means it. No guy is just going to talk like that. He sees you as beautiful because he loves you. When my fiance and I started dating when I was 15 I had terrible acne. He said it never really phased him or changed the way he looked at me because it was just a temporary thing. He's always called me beautiful, and if a guy calls you beautiful, instead of using typical bullshit words like hot, or cute, then you know it's real.
Guys tend to do this for two reasons: To suck up to you or because they want to get into your pants. Usually both. It's all to win brownie points because they know women feel insecure in the buff. Read the threads where men are detailing their tales about being shocked at seeing women without make up and even asking if it's a legitimate charge for fraud. That should tell you how they really feel. Men say a lot of things while the day is long, don't believe everything you hear and keep putting your best foot forward. No man ever complained about a woman looking her best. They will however complain if you let yourself go or let compliments get to your head. Most men *say* they don't care, when really they just want our looks to be effortless and not deal with what it takes to keep it up.

No thats not true If a guy has been with a girl for at least 1 year, obviously he knows how she looks like under all the make up Its either he likes it or not If he doesn't, then he wouldn't make that much effort to keep her happy saying she's beautiful and whatever. He would probably cheat on her or break up with her to find a new girl. Guys can't keep up with their lies. you're saying that everytime a guy says their girl is beautiful, theyre lying? Things that offend girls have to be magnified by 5x to become offensive to guys. Acne, tired eyes, a sweaty face, those things aren't as upsetting to guys as their girls think they are. There was this one girl I knew in high school, and she had a scar she hated behind her right shoulder. She was showing it to one of her female friends, and I walked into the room and said "that's a cool scar." It became an awkward moment for a moment, because she was very confused. It turns out she hated it and was very upset with having it. It wasn't jagged or unsightly or anything, it was a nice clean scar, but she was bewildered that anyone would compliment something that she viewed as anything BUT beautiful. I then talked with her about African tribes who decoratively scar their bodies as a sign of beauty.
It's hard to describe but I tell her she is beautiful because she is. I know she is a beautiful person because of the heart she has for an elderly person when we walk past that she stops walking w/ me to help them carry an item they may be carrying. I love her beautiful eyes she can't mask w/ make-up. I love her laugh & good outlook she has. I think you get my point. But I also think she is beautiful because she stays with me & that is what prompts me most to tell her she is beautiful. Of course, I may be different but I prefer her without make-up. Maybe I she her to often w/out it. To me she doesn't look herself with it on.
