Why does my boyfriend call me "beautiful" when I look like a mess?

Question

Usually when I go out, I always wear some makeup, even when I go to my boyfriend's place. Yesterday I slept over at his and obviously I took my makeup off even tho I had few acne breakouts on my face since I'm getting my period soon and he saw my acnes but he still calls me "beautiful."
E. g. he would say
- goodnight beautiful
- you okay beautiful?
- i love you beautiful Etc

Should I believe him? Lol Or he's just being sweet coz he's my bf? I look sooo terrible like as if any guy would think I look beautiful yesterday without makeup coz of my breakouts. I know my acnes will go away in few days. Anyways guys, do you do this? Girls, does your man do this?

When you are in love with someone and in a relationship with them, you eventually stop "seeing" them as they physically are, and instead you substitute your mental image of them - including your memories of them at their best, and your feelings about their heart and soul. You romanticize them - even when they aren't wearing makeup and have acne.

It's not that his eyes don't work - they do see the acne. But his brain and his feelings for you kind of mentally "Photoshops" you and smoothes over any flaws.

So, he isn't lying - he's just telling you what he sees in his mind - adjusted by his emotional image of you. Really, it means that you are very fortunate - millions of women would kill to be in such a relationship.

Yes, my boyfriend does this too. But remember that he obviously sees you differently than you do. So while you focus on your acne or your messy hair, he might be focusing on your pretty eyes, your radiant smile and your body overall. I don't think he would be saying those things if he didn't mean them.
Like, haven't your friends ever complained to you about their looks, something you think is very minor? Like while they're complaining you're just thinking to yourself "how can this gorgeous woman even find something to complain about?". That's probably the sort of outlook your boyfriend has. He wouldn't be with you if he didn't find you attractive, whether you're all dolled up or barefaced.

This brings up a common thing in pchycology, in which an individual feels discontempt with their own body, despite what everyone says and how they look. This most likly stems from low self esteem or the fact that they are the ones who spend the most time with their body, or even the extreme image that society placed on the "ideal body type" This not unlike the eating disorders Anorexia/Bulimia Nervosa.

But also, on the contrary, it is impossibly to say for sure wether or not you are "beautiful" without seeing what you look like. It is further complicated by the fact that beauty is subjective, someone who looks like they got plowed over by a steamroller then dragged through mud for one person could also look like the most beautiful person ever to another person. Then there is the who debate of whether he is talking about internal or extrenal beauty.

In summary, it is hard to give a definitive answer on whether he truly thinks your beautiful. My best advice is to take the compliment as true abd genuine. This will not only make ypu feel better about the way yoy look, but also give a boost to your self esteem.

I don't look at my girlfriend's face and go, "My girlfriend is not beautiful anymore because she isn't wearing makeup". My girlfriend is always beautiful and she doesn't wear makeup. Even if she did, she's beautiful either way. We get ache and other facial problems too, doesn't mean we're overall not beautiful because of it lol.

I think you have a slight reliance on your makeup, the whole "If I don't wear makeup, no one will think I'm beautiful."
