My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years, lived together for 1. He has an extremely difficult personality and I don’t know how to deal with it. He has bipolar disorder and anger issues, and I’ve really tried to be understanding but it’s taken a toll on my self esteem. He insists on being together as much as possible, when I told him the other night that I was bringing my little sister to a hair appointment in the morning, he got angry and kept saying things like “why the fuck does she even want to get her hair done?” And “so basically what you’re saying is I’ll barely see you before work tomorrow” and then gave me the silent treatment. I’ve pretty much lost all my friends because he doesn’t like them, and the few times I do ever get to go out with friends, he expects me to be home by a certain time and if I’m not he’ll get very angry at me. He can have friends over whenever he wants, but if I try to invite anyone over I have to give him several days notice, one time when his friend was sleeping over, I grabbed him some pillows and blankets, my boyfriend got angry and said “I SAID I WAS GOING TO DO THAT” and he got this scary look in his eyes, I said I was sorry and that I didn’t hear him, and I was walking away I heard him scoff and say to his friend “this is the shit I’m talking about”. Then they both laughed. I don’t know what I did wrong. Over the summer I took a job that happened to be scheduled on his days off, and when I came home on my first day excited to tell him how it was, he told me how selfish I was for taking a job that’s scheduled on his days off, then he criticized what I was wearing, then gave me the silent treatment. He’s called me the c-word, a dumb b-word, called me abusive, told me I’m just a mistake. I’m pretty much only able to leave his sight if One of us is at work, It constantly feels like I’m walking on eggshells, trying not to upset him. There are times he’s lovely, but I don’t know if the good outweighs the bad anymore, what do I do?
