I'm exactly like your girlfriend. I will only use my bf's name if I am having a serious conversation with him or I am angry at him. I will also use his name sometimes when I tell him that I love him. For example "I love you so much *insert name of my bf*". To me, that has even more meaning than using a pet name. But, the majority of the time, I will call him things like baby, babe, sweetie, my love and handsome.
He calls me honey most of the time and says my name when he tells me he loves me and during intimate moments.
Well, in the heat of the moment, you should ALWAYS go with a generic name: Sugar plum, honey bunch, sweet pea...
Because if you ever slip, and call "Sally", "Karen"... you won't live to see daylight.
No amount of backpedaling will save your ass...
My girlfriend's name is Nichole but I just call her Nikki. I don't know why though, I just started calling her that one day and now I guess she is stuck with it.

I do both. When we are having romantic and sweet conversations and moments then i call him sweetie or baby or my love.
If we are having a deep discussion about a certain topic for example something in the news or a book or movie, then i use his real name.
I don’t have a partner but I’m not one that likes pet names. I like my name and I don’t want to be called “babe” or something like that as I find it too cheesy. I may sound weird but I just prefer the name I was given at birth instead of something overly sweet. So I’m pretty sure I’ll just call my partner by his first name.
When I was in a relationship with my first boyfriend, I called him Ray bc it was short for his name. But I think it depends on the name of the person and if they wanna be called by a nickname.
But I do use code names for when I have a crush so no one would fint out😂😂😂😂i remember one was named Button and another one I named Ashy hands😂😂😂😂
I'm not a nick name kinda gal, it's a bit difficult to make a cute name out of Hayley or John. I never really got into pet names much either, I just call everyone by their first name.
