Is going to college out of state to be closer to a significant other worth it?

It's been bothering me for months. I've been in a steady long-distance relationship with someone I love dearly for more than a year now, and are seeing each other every few months. He is a freshman in college around 500 miles from where I am now, and I want so dearly to be closer to him—even if it is a couple of hours away. I'm young, I know. My mom described choosing going to college near him as "chasing a boy," and in some way, I know it is. Though she was connecting me to her messy experiences with young boys.

I would still go out of state anyways, if I had the money to. I could get into a good school, as I think that I have a great transcript and I'm proud of my applications. I haven't applied to any colleges yet because I'm scared, though. I feel like by staying in state, I'm limiting myself for four to seven years and I'll just be stuck here wishing I did something else. There are great college opportunities near me that I'm sure I would love, but there are also great opportunities near him. It's just all about the money. Out of state tuition is so expensive, and I wish it wouldn't have to be. My parents are going to be helping me out a little bit, but I just wish there was some way I could go out of state without wasting their money. Has anyone been in a similar situation with a long-term relationship? Does anyone know how to go to college out of state in a more money-efficient way? Getting into a college won't be much of an issue, I think, it will just be the price it costs to attend. I just need some words of advice, because this is a big decision in my life and I don't want to go on for years feeling like I've given up something so dear to me. Of course nothing would end if I chose to stay in-state for college, but I know already how much harder it will be with both of us in college in a ldr. Thank you for any advice you have.
